We had the good fortune of connecting with Benji Kil and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Benji, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Basketball and fitness has been my entire life. I’ve gone through so many ups and downs as an Asian American athlete that when I was able to have the credentials to train others I knew I could relate more to the current players and clients in my community. So I knew when I started my business I wanted to give the young athletes an opportunity to go farther than me and give them the right guidance.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run a private and semi private basketball training business with strength and performance for athletes. It started off me retiring from playing pro basketball to becoming a personal trainer at a local gym and turned into me training on court as well. Now I’m able to open up my own online program and built a very large following on all social media platforms. This all came so naturally as if this was meant to be. My challenges have been trying to find a facility for myself to grow the brand more and my busy schedule of traveling since I do commercial modeling has also limited my availability on certain months. But that’s why I built an online program to continue helping others all over! I also am thankful to create a travel team for the youth that play in big tournaments to help them go play college sports. I’m very proud of what I’ve built and if I can tell anyone about joining the brand is that you’ll be working with someone that truly loves what they do and values trust! My goal is to help you or your child reach your goals in any way that I can!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If it’s my best friend they’ll definitely want to hit the gym so we would go to my local powerhouse gym and get a workout in. Food wise there are so many great spots to eat at. Depending on the mood but I usually love going to a burger spot called vinsetta garage! I’m not a big drinker or into parties and my friends are similar so really just meeting up with other friends and playing basketball and working out is all I do! Coming to Michigan you have to just see all of downtown Detroit and experience it all!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I definitely would want to give a big shout out to my mom, dad and sister. The ones who supported and believed in me when no one else did including myself
