We had the good fortune of connecting with Blayne Ferrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Blayne, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Expressing myself and my creativity has always been very important to me. I worked for car dealerships as a automotive technician on very nice cars for many years and it was fun and rewarding, but everyday it was the same thing over and over again. I found it very difficult to be myself/express myself yet thankful for the mechanical skills I was developing.

I have learned over my career that it’s not about the money for me, it’s about living the life I want to live and having time to do the things I love. Most of all I really enjoy sharing my passion about the things I enjoy. Building “things” has always been very high on that list.

Starting this company allows me to share my passions and creativity with others so they can get out and live the life they should, and want to live!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I know there are thousands of camper/RV manufacturers out there, and they all make amazing products. One thing I currently offer and want to continue to offer is my honesty and passion about what I do to all my clients and friends. By that I mean offering a unique personal experience to everyone, and really allow the customer to feel like their opinions and ideas are heard but still getting the professional help they were seeking.

I plan on having some standard sizes and models of campers to choose from in the future, but I think what makes me unique from alot of companies is the ability to have something custom tailored to your size, style, and needs.

Everything I create here at Mesa Overland has alot of Love into it. I don’t have a big factory and all the fancy tools, but it’s all made right here in the beautiful North Fork Valley of Colorado on my property at my house.

I’ve learned it’s hard to be the “little guy” but having a vast set of skills has allowed me to do what is necessary to stay afloat as I build my dream company. Good things take time is a huge takeaway…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well being very introverted and not much of a city person this is a fun one!

One of the things I like most about living in this area of Colorado is the abundance of amazing fresh food, live music, and outdoor activities within 2hrs (or 2 minutes) of my door.

I love being outside so I would recommend going camping in the Elks, climbing in the desert, or skiing on the Grand Mesa or surrounding mountain ranges.

Come Spring and summer you can catch live music almost every night of the week so having a full day on the trails followed by drinks and music is definitely the way to go in the North Fork Valley.

Big B’s Delicious Orchard is probably one of my favorite go tos as they have lots of outdoor seating, great food, camping, produce, and an excellent stage for performers!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to many people…

At the top of that list is my Grandfather, Ed Ferrell. He has been in full support of me starting my own buisiness even when I doubted myself. Losing my father at a very young age always left me looking for a father figure and he never hesitates to fill that roll every opportunity he gets!

Second of course is my mother, Joy… without her love and support over all these years I would never have the confidence to be who I am. She has always supported my decision and had my back. As a single mother of most of my life, she always did her best to nurture both my sister and I and our very different personalities and learning styles as kids. My mom saw I was more of a tradesmen and artist very early on and supported me pursuing that even if all my friends went to college.

Another person I couldn’t of done this without is my amazing friend Sean McLane. He really pushed my confidence to start Mesa Overland and was actually my buisiness partner in the beginning. We have since learned we make much better friends than buisiness partners but the lessons he taught me and the confidence he gave me will be with me for the rest of my life. Thanks for believing in me buddy!

Of course I can’t not thank the rest of my friends and family for all your love and support over my turbulent few years and moving forward….
