We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad Miles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brad, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting your own business can be daunting. I’ve always loved coming up with ideas for businesses and products since I was young, but I never took that extra step to actually start a company. However, when we came up with the idea behind the product we currently sell at LEVER Movement (a body weight support device that allows people to take stress and pounding off their body while exercising on a treadmill), we knew we needed to start this company because the product would have the opportunity to help so many people around the world. It was out of this deep desire to satisfy a massive gap in the market and help people that we immediately took the next steps in creating the company. From Olympic athletes (including a few Gold medalists), to runners, triathletes, High schools/College teams, and even Physios and the medical world, we are on our way to fulfilling our mission by helping so many people around the world.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has been shaped by very strong and supportive mentors. For the past 6 years, I’ve been in Enterprise Software Sales, which is known to have very long sales cycles (12+ months). The VPs that I reported to took me under their wing and really helped challenge me to grow personally and professionally. Long sales cycles give you the opportunity to be very strategic and thoughtful about your approach. I have taken many of the things I have learned in sales about strategy and being thoughtful in preparation and planning into leading my own company.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question hits a bit closer to home since the Marshall Fires happened. We are currently living in central Boulder after losing our house in Superior to the fires, so one of the first things I would do is to take my friends to see the impact of the fires. Our friends and family have been so supportive during this time, so they would definitely want to start their as well. My favorite trail runs in Boulder are Lions Lair, any of the options from South Mesa Trailhead, and obviously Chautauqua. So let’s say after a morning hike/run from Chautauqua, we’d eat at the Dining Hall there and then find a brewery or two to hangout in during the afternoon. One of our go to breweries is Crystal Springs on Louisville’s Main Street. We’d finish the day eating dinner at Black Belly in Boulder.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
What really starting driving my entrepreneurial interests was being part of the Entrepreneurship community at Baylor University. But more recently, a lot of the success with LEVER is because of my Co-founder, Ryan Ognibene, who has done a great job of developing and designing our product to where it is today (with many more exciting projects to come soon).
