Meet Brandon Bird | Play-by-play announcer, Golf Coach, Journalism Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Bird and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working in radio in Sterling Colorado and lived two hours away from my wife and I was tired of only getting to be together on some weekends. She proposed the idea of starting a little straming network for Erie High School and I created a buget and a proposal and took it to the athletic Director and sold him on the idea. That is how the Erie Tiger Network was born back in 2015.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think im in a unique position in that I still get to broadcast games even though im not a full-time play-by-play annoucer anymore. I also am the head Coach for the Erie High School Boys and Girls Golf Teams. Im a full time Journalism teacher. I help the athletics with Fundraising. So often times I feel stretched pretty thin becuase of the amount of different hats I wear, buts its a lot of fun trying to fit the puzzle all-together. My Students have done a great job turning the Erie Tiger Netwrok into an award-winning brand. Im really proud of my Girls Golf Team for winning the Colorado 4A state championship last year. So things have become a well oiled machine.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
During a week-long trip to Erie, Colorado, we’d visit the beautiful Colorado National Golf Club for a round of golf or to enjoy the stunning views. We’d take leisurely strolls down Briggs Street. For a taste of local history, we’d visit the Wise Homestead Museum. Dining options would include the Birdhouse and Sweets. In the evenings, we’d unwind with craft beers at Echo Brewing Company, while socializing with friendly locals.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My credit goes to Matt Buchler, Richie Wildenhaus, Justin Carpenter and Erie High School for letting me start streaming their games and then eventually convincing me to become a teacher and coach at the school. I wear a lot of different hats, so a lot of different people have given me bigtime support. My wife and family have sacrificed a lot becuase during the school year I log a lot of hours between teaching at the School and Broadcasting events after school. The community has always loved what we do and been extremly supportive. Our School only has 1700 kids but we are closing in on 4000 YouTube subscribers.
