We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Guilliams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Learn from your customers. They ask for the craziest things! We take the time to make products just for them. Then we use those ideas to sell to still more customers. It takes a while but if you make this a practice, you get a whole catalog that people actually like.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Its fun to do designs and combinations of designs that no one else has every done. I’ve heard that a business should just have a couple of SKUs. This is a one size fits all solution that definently does not work for everyone. I try to make designs for the most obscure interest. Go down rabbit holes! Then make something and post it! This inspires our customers to as us to make something for them personally. What you think will be successful may not be, but the reverse happens too, Be patient, stay humble, keep making and listening and you will be able to have a catalog that you and your customers love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wildflower is an amazing place. Go there and see Chef Tibbetts. You won’t be disappointed. Then the Botanical Gardens, Then Little man Ice cream factory.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Parents. They have always helped my brother and I succeed. They are unselfish and persevering. They patiently taught us the necessary business skills to succeed for the long haul. Most importantly, they taught us delayed gratification. You always need a lot of money in the business account that you don’t touch accept for very necessary business things. This is hard because you might want to take it as profit. Instead you should reinvest or just hold tight till the inevitable large expense comes.
