We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Martinez, RMT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brenda, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am a Colorado Native, born into a Catholic family, my mom was heavily involved in the church until her divorce in my early teens. I also went to church with my grandma; Southern Baptist. As a teenager I would go to church with my girlfriend’s family to a Lutheran church. My mom eventually joined a Christian church and for years I went with her there too (on occasion). Throughout all of this I was lead to believe that anything metaphysical, magical or otherwise woo-woo was bad, of the devil and not to be touched. The side of me that related to the mystical pretty much was shut down with the exception of a sliver. It took me until my late 30’s and early 40’s before I let that side of me start to shine. Learning how to do Reiki had a huge influence on me, it was with each degree that the real me began to discover and uncover my “gifts”. This started in my mid 40’s and thirteen years later I am fully out of the closet as a psychic, and a healer. I now read cards, the emotional body, the Akashic Records, I do Astrology and mix all of this into my energetic business as a Soul Coach. Once I stopped worrying about what others and those of the church would think of me, and started thinking about the wonderful lives I get to touch, my business has taken off, and I’m eternally grateful.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, Soul Deep Life, has been a lifetime in the making. When I became a Reiki practitioner I knew instantly this was something I would want to do forever! Once I became a Master Teacher, it took time for me to grow, and become confident enough to teach, but once I did, I’ve not looked back. Reiki has been my foundation to more – after my Teachers course I went on to learn how to read the Akashic records, through the modality of Soul Realignment, levels 1, 2 and business. I then spent years learning how to read astrology charts, discovered that I can also read oracle cards, and this past year added my own form of emotional body work in the foundation of emotion code, bundled all of that into now coaching. I love that my business is a mixed variety of metaphysical magic, and that I don’t have to fit into anybody’s preconceived notion of what a business is “supposed to be”. My business is a mix of me doing what I love to do, in service to those who want more from their health and their life. I teach classes, do reiki sessions, do a wide variety of readings, and I never have the same day twice. For years I’ve heard find one thing and be good at it, for me, I’ve found a variety of things in the same realm and have become good at them, so that find one thing, turns out, is not a one size fits all concept, and that makes me super happy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Colorado Springs, and Colorado in general has so many wonderful things to see and do. We’d probably visit Manitou Springs, and have dinner/lunch at the Loop, or go up Ute Pass a little to “The Winery” in Cascade (they do wine tastings and all of the wine is from CO). We’d probably need to go up to the top of Pikes Peak. I’m sure we’d need to go to Long Horn Steakhouse one night, and possibly go up to Cripple Creek to do a little gambling. If it was summer time we may even need to pack them up in our camper and go spend some time in the mountains. If we didn’t do that, a good day drive up to Salida to visit Amica’s pizza would likely be a must!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I need to first shout out to my friends (way to many to name individually) who knew the real me way before I did! To my husband Toby who has been my rock in so many ways, always encouraging me, loving me and being my biggest fan. To my Reiki Master Teacher Barbara Kajan-Scott for giving me a wonderful foundation to build a successful Reiki practice on. To my amazing friend and mentor Courtney DeMatteo who has not only believed in me as a friend, but as a coach given me some of the best advice on how to create and cultivate my business. There was also my fellow Reiki practitioners who showed me at Reiki shares that it’s okay to voice the unusual things that came to me. The teachings of Abraham-Hicks, through books and tapes and videos has also had a huge influence on the person I am today. It’s been such a long journey to where I am, and my list of shout outs could be a mile long! Friends, Family, Co-workers, Mentors, and my own thirst for more. I’m beyond grateful for all of it.
