We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Flanagan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brianna, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
A value that is important to me is kindness. Showing kindness can require great strength and patience, especially on difficult days. It is worth it to be kind to yourself and others because it can change everyone involved. Whether it brightens their day, gives you a new friend, or causes you to become stronger at adapting to new experiences. I believe this is an important value in life, because it shows the true strength that you have and how much self-love you give yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is outdoor photography, which I share with the public through my social media page Wild Juniper Photography. The photographs I capture are from my travels across the United States and what I view as interesting or beautiful. As I am photographing different subjects, I think of different ways to visually enhance and bring it to life. Being an outdoor enthusiast has given me many exciting opportunities and I love sharing those special moments with the world.

I got to where I am today, by being accepting that life is not very predictable. Weather can change so quickly and not be cooperative. The sun can decide to randomly be brighter in a split second and ruin one shot. Animals sometimes do not show themselves. Wind can make portraits difficult. There are a lot of different challenges that come with photography and there is not much you can do to counteract them. All I do is hope that what I captures will look amazing on a bigger screen. Unfortunately, it sometimes does not work out but I continue to enjoy the outdoors and taking photographs.

Along the way I have learned a few lessons. Do what makes you happy, I create my photographs out of my own enjoyment from capturing them and I do not hold myself back because I fear others opinions. Have patience, especially with being in a creative field it can take quite some time to build your portfolio or following on social media. All you can do is to keep working hard on what you love and continue to grow. Get out of your comfort zone. I continue to build my portfolio with outdoor photographs that I could not have captured without trying something new and I am now starting to build it with portrait photographs. I was scared at first to do portrait work because of the lack of knowledge, but a great way to get better is to continue to practice.

My business, Wild Juniper Photography, is different from other photography ones because it revolves around a ‘life well captured’ and showcasing my escapades for others to enjoy. I hope to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone, and to explore what this amazing world has to offer. It is a slow growing venture that rewards me constantly for the hard work that I put into it and would not have been achievable without all the wonderful support that I have received from my mentors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a huge thank you to the two amazing chefs that I work with. They have an endless amount of patience with to help me grow in the restaurant industry and are always there to push me out of my comfort zone. They have my upmost respect and I am so appreciative to have them as my mentors. I would also like to thank my friends and family for supporting my photography passion.

All of them have helped me in more ways than one to grow and become a better photographer every time I capture a blissful moment.
