Meet Brittany Lowry | Bookish content creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Lowry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi brittany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Normalizing Audiobooks as a form of reading. When I first became a content creator, I noticed no one was talking about Audiobooks in the book community, as if people thought it was invalid. I saw the void, and filled it and was able to build a large platform based around the accessibility and appreciation for audiobooks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I became an Audiobook content creator on TikTok in January 2021. I saw a small book community on Tiktok; I had never heard of this community before and saw that no one was talking about audiobooks, which is my primary form of reading. I started posting and people started to gravitate towards my content. It was amazing; all I had to do was talk about the things I loved, and it brought a small group together. Then it grew, and grew and grew…and here I am with over 200k followers who share a love of reading. Then, publishers and book companies were reaching out to collab with me, and I felt seen and heard and like I could make a difference, and that felt amazing. The only hard times, I’d say, are the Internet bullies. The ones who shame and criticize and make you feel beneath them for what I love online.
The book community is large, and there is room for everyone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live near Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Which means, the rockies are only 1.5 hrs away. I would take them to Waterton to see the views and hike the trails and enjoy the beauty that is so close to me.
I would set up an evening to go to my favorite intimate restaurant called Eden’s in Raymond, Alberta. It is a sit-down, catered 4-course meal in a historic home.
I would take them to my favourite bookstores and bring them along for bookclub.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Maikal. He has been an avid reader our entire marriage. I did not see the appeal until a friend gave me a book recommendation, and my husband suggested i try via audiobook, and I was hooked ever since. I never saw the appeal of reading until my husband pushed me to give it a try. And now, I am succeeding and have so much joy in the book community. Which is a huge group of people that love and accept each other. The book community is what lifted me up from the ground and towards the skies.
