We had the good fortune of connecting with Broken Babes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Broken Babes, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Wanting to create a safe and accessible place for all types of performers. Performing in Denver for over 6 years we found that it’s not accessible to a lot of performers and even some audience members. It’s hard to feel welcome in a place when you can’t access it, and we wanted to change that.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Broken Babes are an accessible production company Started by Bella Brujita and Allie Soreass in August of 2021. We had talked about it for a long time before we finally said “fuck it” after Covid changed well, everything. We found a bar, and just jumped in. Marketed for 2 weeks and we were at standing-room-only. We looked around and thought that we really were on to something. People started crawling out of the woodwork telling us how much they wanted to be a part of it and needed a space to create. We had a lot of non-binary and trans performers tell us that we made a space for them that was more needed than we knew of. In December 2021 the venue could no longer host us so we scrambled 2 days before a show to find a venue and Tracks Denver stepped up and gave us a new home. We started having our monthly shows here and then in April 2022 we added a second show at a more intimate venue, Luci’s Shambles & Provisions. This gives us the opportunity to have different types of shows. At the end of May 2022, we added a 3rd producer, Eliza Rex to help with how fast we have been growing, it quickly became more than we expected. As of July 2022, we will be adding a Brunch show, that will showcase more drag performers, at Western Sky Brewery.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For drinks, dancing, roller skating, open mics, drag, and burlesque Tracks always welcomes everyone, nearly every day. A spot for good cocktails, even mocktails, and a changing food offering, you can even catch a comedy or burlesque show at Luci’s Shambles & Provisions.
You can often find a couple of us at Electric Cure for Trivia with Ghouls Night Out. Or at Mutiny Information Café for coffee and books of all types.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Fellow performers who faced the same challenges as well as friends and allies who pushes us to success and supported us at the very start.
