We had the good fortune of connecting with Brook Escobedo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brook, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business out of necessity. I was working for another salon as a commission employee and had become extremely disillusioned with the salon and the hair industry. I worked in a very competitive and toxic environment, and had become so unhappy I was considering leaving the industry altogether. Thankfully one of my best friends had been working as an independent stylist for a few years and convinced me that I would be much happier working for myself. I took the jump, which was so scary, and its the best decision I have ever made.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been doing hair for over 10 years and have been an independent stylist for the last 5 years. These past 5 years I have put a major emphasis on education and taking as many classes as possible. It was not an easy path to get where I am today. I almost quit many times, but my love and passion for the hair industry superseded any negative feelings or doubts. Finding the right salon home and working for myself made all the difference and reinvigorated my excitement to do hair, and I would say that has been my biggest lesson, finding the right people who support and inspire you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Weekend Denver Trip Itinerary:
Stay: The Ramble or The Source Hotel
Friday Night: Dinner Brasserie Brixton (the ricotta doughnuts for dessert are a must!) and drinks next door at Yacht Club after dinner.
Saturday: Coffee and a light breakfast and Crema, followed by shopping at some local favorites, The Conifer Shop, Recital, and Meek Vintage. followed by afternoon cocktails at Honey elixir. Dinner Drinks and Music at Nocturne.
Sunday: Brunch at Il Posto. Karaoke and cocktails at Voicebox
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shout out to my best friend and Salon Owner Brittani Estes. Without her mentorship and encouragement I would not be where I am today. I owe so much of my success and happiness behind the chair to her.
