We had the good fortune of connecting with Brook Reynolds and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brook, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think the best things in my life have come from taking risks. My business being the best and most important example. The hard part is knowing when something is a risk worth taking and what is not. I often don’t think of that before taking a risk and while it has proven to be work in my favor, I often I take silly impulsive and sometimes reckless risks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always loved art!!! While I have considered myself an artist the realist in me only ever thought I’d be an artist for pleasure not profession. However I did initially attend college to pursue art, mostly because I had no other ambition. My college career was short lived and I chose to enter the work force instead. I did jobs for fun and passion, such as painting pottery, raft guiding and being a lifty. I loved these jobs and the people I met while working them, they have become my support system and inspiration. It was my parents that encouraged me to pick a path, suggesting trade school knowing college had no appeal to me. Welding was a fairly random but intriguing choice and when first pursing it I had no intention of working for myself or using it primarily for art. Interestingly enough all my class projects turned into art projects so I went with it!!!! It’s a great relief to know I’ll always be able to find employment if needed, but I am so grateful to have a successful enough business thus far to keep living my all time dream. I’ve learned many hard and some fun lessons, with many many more in store. I have come along way in just a few years and still so much room to grow!!! I am the person my childhood self wanted to be and so much more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would want to show them all the wonderful things Colorado has that clearly inspires my art. The mountains, rivers and hide-a-ways that have given me so much.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am very fortunate to have many supporting factors. Of course both of my parents for financially helping but more so emotionally encouraging and supportive. When most would question my choices and dreams (mostly myself) they never once faltered in their belief that I had a passion worth pursuing. Along with that, I had the opportunity early in my business to join a collective. The owner and other artists of the 9318 Collective have proven to be invaluable to me. They are the support team EVERY artist deserves. I have grown so much with my art and business in general because of this amazing group of people. I’ve been able to bounce ideas and artist specific issues off of them, helping make myself, my art and my business the best authentic and ethical version possible. They are friends mentors and so much more. Then, of course I can’t leave out friends and other family members who have been my biggest cheerleaders and I am beyond grateful for every piece bought, word of encouragement and unwavering support.
