Meet Brooke Hill | Adventure Elopement + Wedding Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
A long time ago I learned that all that I’ve ever wanted is found outside of my comfort zone. I believe in order to grow, we must challenge ourselves to reach beyond the ordinary. When I was 22, I was working 3 jobs and barely making ends meet. I would tell people, “I’m a nanny for a family. I also work as a caregiver for women with special needs. Oh, and I also do a little bit of photography on the side.” Later that year I met a National Geographic photographer that helped me discover confidence within myself. He said to me, “If you really want it, you’ve gotta go after it. You have to believe that you can do it.” I took his advice, quit my safety net jobs, and became a full-time photographer. I stepped into an unpredictable future that felt right, and yet scary. Little did I know that a few months later I would begin my successful business and never look back. If it scares you, it is probably meant for you to conquer. Take the risk, jump in, and only look back to see how far you’ve come.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography style as an artist is rooted in being inspired by nature and candid storytelling. The Among The Pines Photography name comes from a poem by my favorite poet Mary Oliver. In her poem When I Am Among The Trees, Mary talks about the importance of getting lost in nature and how to eliminate hurry from our lives. I long for the couples that I photograph to experience the same. I believe it’s important for each of us to slow down and experience the here and now. As the world progresses and we all evolve, it gets harder and harder for that to happen. As a fellow human, I believe it’s my duty to encourage those around me to get outside, find somewhere beautiful, and to experience nature. As a photographer, I believe it’s my duty to ensure that these moments are captured with authenticity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Straight from the airport, I would head to my favorite local coffee shop (Lost Coffee in Littleton) for us to catch up. After chatting for a while we’d grab some breakfast tacos from RxR’s Taco Truck and head into the mountains. My favorite mountain town lately has been Crested Butte. It feels so removed from the hustle of the city and the drive there never gets old. Cows populating the mountain roads, and how many towns can say that the entrance into their town is via a dirt road that makes you feel like you’re truly going the wrong way? The 360 mountain views of the town keep me coming back time and time again.
After spending time hiking, relaxing, and simply being in nature for a few days – we’d head back to Denver. In order to experience all that the city has to offer, we’d hit my favorite spots. Deep Roots Winery for pizza and wine and the friendliest staff. Cochinos for the strongest margaritas. Of course a trip to Colorado isn’t complete without a brewery visit – Breckenridge Brewery has the best outdoor seating. Then we’d conclude our trip with taking my dog on a walk around Wash Park where we admire all the other doggos and be grateful for the 300+ days of sunshine in Colorado.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank Greg Davis (https://gregdavisphotography.com/) for sharing his insight with me years ago at a music festival in Missouri. His wisdom and encouragement helped me launch my photography career with confidence – not only my work, but myself as well.
