We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Zalea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, what do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my inherent desire for individually and boundless creative expression to the success i’ve fortunately obtained.  I’ve always believed in how important it is to flow freely & express yourself fearlessly.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art has ornamental roots. I have always been fond of the idea of decoration, whether that be of the skin, or clothing & accessories. I appreciate the ornamental decoration of architecture and furniture. The strategy of seeing where curves fit and align. I am constantly seeking new horizons- expanding norms.

I feel most proud of my ever-evolving journey of artistry.
Remaining grounded through difficult moments, expanding in love.

Breaking into the tattoo culture can be a tough battle sometimes, there are generational curses that hold very high and sturdy hurdles. I am here to prove there is no right or wrong way- there is only love and creation. There is room for everyone to succeed in the way that feels best for them.

I have overcome these hurdles with integrity and fearlessness. Resting when needed, but never giving up. Learning balance, remembering I am human, and that we are all just doing our best.

Always brewing a warm cup of dreams.

We are art, we are creation of the most high.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to the Denver art museum of course, for delicious bites at Uchi, and a scooter ride through downtown. Boulder falls, the summit of Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and Rocky Mountain National Park would all fit the bill too! Lots of hiking, fresh noms, and live music around town.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honor the support of my family, the friends and relationships who have shaped me over time. The teachings of Ram Dass, plant medicine, warm baths, and my travels all have impacted my journey in wondrous ways.
