Meet Brooke Zalis | M.Ed, LPC, LMHC, NCC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Zalis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At A New Story Counseling, our focus is helping people navigate life’s challenges and grow into more regulated, resilient, and empowered versions of themselves. We support individuals and couples in building practical skills to manage anxiety and depression, navigate life transitions, strengthen relationships, deepen connection, and heal from past trauma.
When people develop greater self-awareness, learn how to regulate their nervous systems, communicate more effectively, and show up with intention and authenticity, the impact extends far beyond the therapy room. This personal work creates a ripple effect, strengthening relationships, families, and ultimately the broader community. By doing our own inner work, we contribute to healthier, more connected lives and communities as a whole.

What should our readers know about your business?
At A New Story Counseling, our focus is on helping those seeking support for anxiety, life transitions, EMDR for the reprocessing of trauma, couples counseling, and sex therapy. We provide a warm, inviting, and nonjudgmental space where clients can show up as their authentic selves and grow into more aligned, empowered versions of themselves. Our goal is to create an environment where true healing and transformation can take place.
What excites me most about the future is expanding our reach, welcoming new clinicians to our team, and offering an even wider range of specialties and modalities. I got to where I am today thanks to the invaluable learning experiences I had working in group practices early in my career. These experiences taught me the ropes and prepared me to branch out on my own. Building a practice wasn’t always easy, it required long hours, learning on the fly, and wearing many hats. My passion for this work and the fulfillment it brings have kept me moving forward.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that I don’t have to do it all alone. Allowing others to help, seeking mentorship, and making decisions that feel aligned in my body and intuition have guided both my personal and professional growth. My inner compass has never led me wrong. I’ve also learned that leaning into the things that scare me often leads to the most growth- the areas that feel uncomfortable are usually where transformation happens.
What I want the world to know about A New Story Counseling is that we are deeply committed to creating a space where transformation is possible, where every client feels seen, heard, and empowered to write their next chapter.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a friend were visiting, I’d show them the best of Denver and the surrounding area. In the winter, we’d hit the slopes for a day of skiing/snowboarding, and in the summer, we’d explore some hiking trails nearby. I’d make sure to catch a comedy show at Comedy Works, savor some Ethiopian food or bowl of ramen, and end the day with a concert at Red Rocks.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to the people who have supported me at every stage of my personal and professional journey- my parents, my partner, my friends, and the supervisors and mentors who have guided me along the way. None of this happens in isolation, and I’m incredibly thankful for the community that continues to support and inspire me.
