We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Rowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryan, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Most everyone has probably heard the phrase “A picture is worth a thousand words”. What many people don’t realize with Commercial Product Photography is that a single final picture or advertisement may be the result of multiple images composited together to literally show a product in its best light. In this case the best light might come from multiple directions that physically can’t be achieved in one single photo. Even “simple” shots of beer pouring into a glass or liquor bottles often requires hours of lighting and post production work to get that high end result that the consumer sees.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets my work apart is that I really care about the details and working as long as it takes to show a product in it’s absolute best light. I completely geek out on the light, composition and details and find it immensely enjoyable. Working with clients that really care about the details and understand that it takes time to craft beautiful photos is the greatest reward. Working as a freelancer definitely comes with it’s ups and downs but I believe the goal is to keep on working hard, pushing yourself and your skills and success will be inevitable. I am very grateful to have landed in a profession that I get to work with people to help fulfill their creative visions.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Breakfast spots not to miss in Boulder would have to be Lucille’s and Snooze which are two of my favorites. For a quick lunch I would say Snarfs or Flower Child and for dinner my favorites are Bar Taco, Hapa Sushi and the Kitchen Next Door. For my mountain bike friends I would go for a ride up at Walker Ranch which is definitely one of the most scenic rides in the area followed by a post ride parking lot beer.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Karl Taylor is a phenomenal photographer with an exceptional understanding of light and composition. I credit him with so many of the skills I’ve learned and for being a constant inspiration.
