Meet C Lo’ren Morrison | Artist and Muralist

We had the good fortune of connecting with C Lo’ren Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi C Lo’ren, how does your business help the community?
I’m big on non exclusivity. From an artist who is represented by two art galleries (Tivoli Village, Las Vegas, and Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, Colorado) that might be a strange thing to hear.

Art Galleries by their very nature tend to be exclusive. But I have always wanted art to be available to be seen and experienced by anyone interested. This is probably why I started painting murals. Murals are artwork that is usually available for everyone to see, enjoy, pose with and I love that! A few years back, I created a mural of Picasso, Colorado’s internationally know wild mustang leaping from the frame in Golden, Colorado. I’ve created other largescale murals as well, traveling to other states and partnering with municipalities, businesses or individuals to create interior and exterior murals.

But during the pandemic, the need for this kind of availability to art became even more evident. So together with my partner Daniel, we brainstormed how we could bring more art to more people in a non exclusive way: then we created a free augmented reality art walking tour in our local town. He brought the tech and I brought the art: the real trick was discovering the right people to talk to, sharing our idea, hoping they caught it and then waiting for the right doors to open. Together, we managed to place 15 pieces of augmented reality artwork in 12 locations, including Golden’s Visitor’s Center.

Now, this free augmented reality art walking tour is available for everyone to visit, enjoy, and experience with the help of a freely downloadable app and the amazing businesses and entities we partnered with.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started painting at age 7 and have always loved any opportunity to create with my paintbrush and canvas. There was a western artist in my hometown named Frank Adams, who’s studio was down the street and I would walk down by myself and admire his work, which centered around stories and legends of the American West. As a former illustrator from New York, Frank had honed his story-telling abilities in the vein of Norman Rockwell, and a single painting would showcase something that could make you laugh or cry, depending.

I admired this ability and the independence to create what one wanted. I knew that what I wanted was to make people smile, with my art. And I wanted color. Lots of color.

In my artistic journey, I have found the opportunity to combine my work with activism, using my paintings about the mustangs of Colorado to bring awareness about the situation of America’s wild horses. Partnering with others, including wildlife photographer Scott Wilson has been a major step along the way. Getting to share about Picasso, Colorado’s internationally known mustang or travel with Scott into the Sand Wash Basin of northern Colorado are experiences that I treasure and which have added legend to every image of a mustang that I paint.

And creating the AR Art Walking Tour in Golden, has given me the ability to take these experiences one step further and share them with many more people. I love this!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live right in downtown Golden, Colorado and in my opinion, it is one of the best day trips from the city of Denver that anyone can take. Getting to grab an inner-tube and lazily float down Clear Creek, or step into the Golden Game Guild with the family and take a break by relaxing with their library of games and a beer, then head out to hike along the edge of Clear Creek, and peek at the mini murals that Golden Art’s Commission has paid for around the trail…these are all things I would bring a friend along to see.

Of course, my Augmented Reality Art Walking Tour would be one of the first things in our list: my partner and I wanted to give visitors to Golden something else that they could do and experience. And the tour goes down Washington Avenue, with all the quaint and wonderful little shops that are hosting a piece of my art, and curves around to Clear Creek and the beautiful Clear Creek trail, to stop in at the library and then back to the Visitor’s Center. We would also take a side jaunt to visit Bob’s Atomic Burgers, the best little burger joint in town, which also hosts a piece of my artwork. And if they were still feeling in the mood to experience the town, I’d take them up to walk around on South Table Mountain and Golden’s Castle Rock.
