We had the good fortune of connecting with Callie fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Callie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Pre-Covid I was commuting to an agency job in Boulder and sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day, getting a couple hours of work done each day. I now balance a lot more jobs: I teach at two yoga studios, I launched a reiki business this year, I host quarterly women’s retreats, and I help manage a skincare brand. So it sounds like (and honestly feels like) a lot more, but the difference is that I’ve gotten to completely choose my schedule. I get to go skiing and hiking in the middle of the week, I get to work during times of the day that work for me, I don’t have to worry about being off Slack for more than an hours in the middle o the day.
Finding balance is realizing that YOU are in control of finding that balance. You get to choose how your spend your energy and your time. If you are unhappy with your current work/life balance, then you get to be the one to make the necessary changes to come into more of a balance that works for you!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve gotten to where I am today by continuously focusing on building connections. I do everything in my power to maintain positive relationships with everyone I come across. I spent over a decade in marketing and PR in the Denver and Boulder area, working with local, national, and international companies and brands. But really, so much of that work was about building relationships. I continue to stay curious about what I may be able to learn from everyone I meet.
I’ve had to really lean on patience to get to where I am today. Work isn’t always fun; it is still work! Here is some advice:
– Bad bosses abound. You can find them everywhere, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn anything from them. Do your best and if a bad boss is ruining everyday that you work with them, get out!!
– Be wary of workplace groupthink complaining. People love to complain, and it can be really easy to get caught up in a group of coworkers who are always complaining. While their complaints are probably valid, this negativity will 100% impact your own attitude and how you show up.
– Ask for help when you need it. Ask for clarification when you don’t understand. People will respect you more if you seek to understand.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love showing friends Denver and the amazing places that surround us! Let’s:
– Find a show or a movie to go to at Red Rocks (duh)
– Go on a hike around Genesee to see the buffalo
– Paddleboard in Evergreen, then grab brunch at Blackbird Cafe in Kittridge
– Walk to Meow Wolf and get a little lost
– Bring you to one of my yoga classes
– Walk around Sloan’s
– Take a day trip to Boulder to go to the tea house, drive up to Realization Point, and hike Sanitas
– Visit one of Denver’s amazing museums – maybe the Denver Art Museum or the Museum of Nature and Science
– Stroll around the Botanic Gardens
– Take a swan boat out on the lake at City Park at night when the fountain is lit up
– There are so, so many delicious restaurants to choose from; we can find some good ones based on what you’re craving!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ll dedicate this lil Shoutout to my friend, mentor, and Colorado mom: Tia Mattson. I moved out to Colorado in 2011 and Tia was the first person to invite me to come in and interview me for a marketing job. We proceeded to work together on and off for over six years, including at a PR business she started. I’ve spent holidays with her family and I look up to her in more ways than she knows. I’m so lucky to have Tia in my life!
My amazing husband, Seth, always encourages me to chase my passions, take leaps, and pursue what lights me up. I am so grateful for his support and love.
And my business partner and yoga mentor Cat has been in my life since 2018. We launched our Mountain Goddess Retreat series last year, which continues to sell out, and we are launching a book later this year!
