We had the good fortune of connecting with Canesha Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Canesha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always loved creating art, things that people may not always see. I enjoy giving a different perspective on things that people may not think of right off the bat. Photography allowed me to create different types of images, to show people that there are so many things in the world that should be appreciated and seen..
Starting my own photography business was also a way to prove to myself that I could do something so entirely far outside of my comfort zone. I never dreamed of being able to sit down and share the things that would interest others as well. I got the idea one day and ran with it. I hasn’t become my career or financial support quite yet, but I hope that if I keep branching out I will make my goal of being self sustaining with my photography.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Outside of my photography, my career is in the diesel field. I started at WyoTech Laramie and got a degree in Advanced Diesel Technology. I was always told the mechanic field was for the guys, and I would never succeed. I started school with next to no knowledge of anything mechanic related. Through the 9 months of school, I had to prove that I could do just as well as everyone else. The real challenges were once I graduated though. I was able to get a job working at a truck shop in Washington State. I learned very quickly that school was not even close to the challenges that would await me in the real world. I was told by customers, and coworkers that I did not belong there. I was given hard jobs to try and break me. Once I was able to get through the first part and show that I was there to stay things got a lot easier. It was a passion, it was a career. I was then able to branch off and show that I was more than that. My mom got me a camera in 2018, and I would take it to work and photograph trucks, parts, anything I could whenever I could. I realized I loved landscape photography and made it an effort to travel in the new state of Washington that I called home. That is where I really discovered that there were so many places that I could show people through photography that they may not have been able to see without me getting those photos. I can’t wait to make more trips, more photos, and more art!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being from Colorado, people always expect to go to the mountains. I would absolutely take them to Red Rocks Amphitheater. Definitely a classic place to visit, especially when there is a good show. Despite being from Denver, I would likely avoid downtown, the hustle and bustle for the most parts.
Visiting the many wineries like the Carbon winery would be a top stop, along with the wineries out in Palisade, CO. Depending on the time of year, I would take them paddle boarding at Lake Granby, or snow tubing in Frisco. We would have to venture to Beau Jo’s pizza for some great eats as well. There are countless great food trucks around the city as well. As a final dinner/activity, we would go out to my house, smoke some meat from the butcher, visit with the dogs and cows, light a bonfire and relax before I send them on their way back home.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would absolutely not have gotten this far in any of my venture if it was not for my best friend Katie. In all of my hair brain ideas, life choices, and business/career adventures, she has been there to support me in any way she can. When I was second guessing my photography Katie made sure to give me a few stern words, along with some encouragement to get me to branch out. I am definitely thankful for the amount of support that she has given me. I would not be where I am today without her.
