Meet Carlito Hale | Film director:writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlito Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carlito, what makes you happy? Why?
What makes me happy is doing what I love and loving what I do! What I didn’t know before is that your happiness isn’t measured by someone or something, it’s measured by what lies within you. True happiness comes from within and by finding one’s happiness is doing what you love, and loving what you do!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As cliché as it sounds I come from humble beginnings always dreaming big! As a kid I always love football and movies. I was and still am very active athletic person and always put that into play throughout my childhood and even today. Movies are an experience, it’s where you can go escape to a whole new world and be present for 2 hours. And as rough as my upbringing was escaping was my coping mechanism and movies helped with that extraordinarily. I really started to fall in love with movies when my dad had this laptop with hundreds and hundreds of movies on and when I wasn’t outside playing or inside playing video games, I would asked my dad for his laptop so I could watch a movie, not knowing this would one day be my hobby and soon my profession. My siblings and I always loved watching movies and referencing them to pass time and make inside jokes, to be honest we still do. It wasn’t until my junior year in high school when I started writing poetry and did that for about a year before writing screenplays. One night it dawned on me on me, I was watching a movie and something in my brain clicked, I thought to myself “I love watching movies and writing poetry, why not write a movie” and BOOM I started watching hours and hours of YouTube videos for about 2 weeks teaching my self on how to write a proper screenplay. YouTube University is real! During the summer of 2020 (Covid) I started writing my first screenplay, I ended up taking a break because I got an offer from a school in Northern California to play football in Vegas (we were in Vegas because of Covid) so after I got back from Vegas I continued to finish up my script and I finished it in February of 2021. It wasn’t until I transferred to the University of Northern Colorado when I had the resources and talent to shoot my first short film in spring of 2023. And to this day I look back and see all the trials and tribulations and struggles and what keeps me pushing is the belief I have within myself and the lord to become great and to aspire other to be great in their field!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would show my friend downtown Denver for sure, the people, vibes and craziness that happens is definitely a sight to see and experience. I would take them to places like meow wolf, bubble planet, the botanical gardens etc. it’s so much to do in Denver it we’ll make it last for the week!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Brock Mason for spreading the word and recommending me to be apart of this interview. I want to shoutout out my family and friends for all the support and love that helps me to carry on in what I do!
