We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey and Joey Mastreno and Andenucio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey and Joey, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Working with flowers. There is something so therapeutic about taking different types of flowers and greenery and placing them in a way that reflects our aesthetic and personality. Time together. With both of us having other jobs this business has given us a chance to have quality time together as we grow the business and reputation of the business. We get to work on the product, source goods for our shop, thrift vases, and brainstorm together. It doesn’t feel like work. It is us getting to do something we love together.
Involvement of friends and family. Our “employees” are our friends and family. This makes it special when we can come together and have those that care about us participate in our growth and success.
The finished product and Customer appreciation and fulfillment. Customers become friends. They love our product and we love making them unique floral decorations for weddings, showers, birthdays, and everyday events. We have gotten to work with some clients all the way from their wedding shower to delivering an arrangement to the hospital for their first child. It is so special.
Personal growth. We are self taught florists. Getting to see our work expand and grow as we learn new tricks and experience new product has been so rewarding. The journey of learning and time management and growth of talent has been so beneficial not only from the business perspective but as a couple and individuals as well.

What should our readers know about your business?
Thrifty Gents is a bespoke floral and event planning business. Our shop offers everyday floral and gifts. The soul of our business has been weddings and we love helping couples make their big day special with over the top florals. We utilize non traditional floral techniques and flower choices. One of the things that sets us apart from other florists in town is that we love and utilize a wide variety of greenery as the base of all of our floral designs. Since we started the business in the spring of 2019 we have won Pueblo’s best florist for three years in a row. While that is prestigious, the fact that our community had to vote us as the best is what we are most proud of. We are so honored that our community loves us. Our business has grown and pivoted from its early conception. It wasn’t always easy. But, with each mistake we have learned numerous lessons. Some of those lessons include time management, product sourcing is key, and when working with a perishable product you have to know how each flower or green stem is going to respond to temperature and storage. We would love for the world to know that we love to offer something that is different and unique. We believe that there is enough love in our town to go around. We strive to be eco friendly and conscious of price point for our customers. When offering the idea of bespoke floral you have a different experience when you walk into our shop. We have a few arrangements ready to be purchased for the day. We like to focus on pre orders so that we can customize the arrangement to the customer or recipient. We love what we get to do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When giving credit or a shoutout: there isn’t one particular person, group, or event that we can single out. Because, everyone in the Pueblo Community has been so amazingly supportive from the moment we conceptualized our business. From the first family that took a risk on us to plan their wedding and then allowing us to be the florists, to every single person that supports us on social media. We are so appreciative for all of them.
