We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassandra Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassandra, what principle do you value most?
Starting Keep Denver Weird was to showcase all that I love about this city even though it is ever changing. I have spent the past thirty years here and have seen it morph and grow but still able to maintain its beauty and originality. There is a reason so many people move to Denver, start businesses in Denver, and visit Denver. I want those who are natives not to lose their lust for the city and remind people why they moved here in the first place. This western city has a diverse culture all its own and I am blessed to see it daily.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
There are a lot of “influencers” out there pushing topics, products, etc… and that is how they make their living. Which I commend. But I wanted an outlet that was not monetarily driven. That was simply me sharing my experiences of Denver, this city that I love and choose to live in every day. I wanted to showcase what I find in this city that makes it such a one of a kind without a brand, business or otherwise paying me to do so. I sell Keep Denver Weird merchandise on Etsy which allows me not to have to do a pay per post style of social media sharing while also hopefully boosting the businesses, non profits, artists exposure with out them even knowing. I want them to feel seen and the followers to know I genuinely love what I am sharing! It also allows me to hear from fellow weirdos what they find in Denver to be of interest and I can check it out furthering my own adventurous spirit!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well obviously I would tell them to check out Keep Denver Weird on Instagram and see what is of interest to them, after all that is the whole point!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Corny as it may be, my mother is my number one inspiration, mentor, coach, and all around badass. She pushes me to try new ventures and share my experiences with others!
