We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassidy Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cassidy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a creative spark somewhere inside me ever since I was little. As a kid, I was always trying to take my mom’s camera so that I could take pictures and videos of my younger siblings. Coupled with my passion for drawing, I knew that my career later on would end up being something that would utilize my creative skills.

I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in December 2023 with a BS in Strategic Communications and a double minor in Sports Media and Creative Technology & Design (CTD). After taking on 6 internships that helped me decide where I thrived, I knew I wanted to work in marketing within professional or collegiate sports.

Trying to get a job in sports is very competitive and can often take a lot of time due to the limited amount of jobs that pop up throughout the season. With that in mind, I decided to give myself 6-months post-graduation where I only applied to jobs within the sports industry. If nothing came of it, I would move on and look for jobs in other fields. That being said, I had a lot of free time in between job interviews and applications throughout those 6-months where I could choose what I wanted to do.

My thought process turned into wanting to utilize this chance that I had to pursue my interest in photography further and start my own business as something I could potentially do on the side after achieving a career in sports. When would I ever get this much free time again to put all of my efforts into one of my passions? So Cassidy Davis Photography was born and I have loved the chances I have had to capture the memories of new and old friends and learn so much more about the art of photography!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am so happy and grateful to say that in my 6-month push for a career in sports, I achieved a role in partnership marketing with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL. Getting my dream job straight out of college is the biggest highlight of my life and I am so thankful for all of the people who played a role in getting me to where I am today.

My story in the sports industry is an unusual one. Many people I have met in this field grew up lifelong sports fans and/or athletes. I, in comparison, never touched a sport after elementary school and felt my calling toward the arts my entire life. Coming out of high school, my initial career goal was to find a role in marketing for a record label or music streaming service such as Spotify or Apple Music.

I was a freshman in college when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its worst, resulting in my first year looking a lot different than most. Rather than going out with a large group of friends, I often stayed in a dorm room with one or two people doing our homework or online classes. One of these friends happened to have a huge love for hockey and was constantly watching the Colorado Avalanche play in the background of our study sessions. This was my first true introduction into the world of sports and I immediately found a love for crazy fanbases and the memories that are made through attending games.

After the pandemic was over, I was given the incredible opportunity to work for the Colorado Rapids and witness firsthand just how incredible it is to work in a position where I am consistently surrounded by what I love. I later worked for other teams including the Denver Nuggets, University of Colorado Athletics program, and even the Colorado Avalanche who kickstarted my love for sports.

The sports industry is incredibly hard to find a role in because of the amount of people who want to work in such an amazing environment. In many of my roles, I have competed against thousands of other applicants for one spot. However, the biggest thing I have learned throughout this journey is to never give up on what makes you passionate and to use that fire to fuel your determination. Because when you finally make it, the end result is so worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado will forever be my home because of the true beauty that you can find every day that you’re there. There’s always some place new to explore and almost everywhere you go is a new form of stunning. My favorite place will always be Boulder because of the breathtaking mountains surrounding the city, the adorable downtown area at Pearl Street, and the college campus that will always feel like home to me.

In addition to Boulder, I would also take my best friend to any Denver Nuggets or Colorado Avalanche game. The fan bases for these two teams are incredible and truly love the atmosphere that comes with being in a stadium full of these people. It’s an experience like no other.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a trip to Colorado without going to Red Rocks Amphitheater. Especially for a folk concert, this stage is so beautiful and will forever be one of the best places to see music live in the world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Family! I couldn’t have started Cassidy Davis Photography without the love and support of my parents and my younger brother and sister.

When I was a kid, my mom was big into taking pictures and videos of me and my siblings as we grew up. Looking back now, I have so many old home videos of me trying to grab my mom’s camera so that I could capture my point-of-view of the world around me. It’s funny now seeing how attracted I was to a camera even as I was little. The fact that my mom encouraged my creativity and nurtured my artistic spark led me to pursue what I have today. Without my parents support in this creativity and my siblings willingness to be subjects in my photos throughout my life, I would have never found as much love for photography as I have now.

On top of that, I would have never had the time to build this business if my family had not supported my decision to pursue my dream career immediately out of college. They gave me a place to stay for free, food to eat, and consistent encouragement as I applied for so many positions in the sports industry in the 6-months following graduation. Without this freedom to pursue my passions, I would have been stuck in a career I don’t like with no time to strengthen my photography skills and build a new company from the ground up.

They are everything to me!
