We had the good fortune of connecting with Channing Benjamin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Channing, what do you attribute your success to?
Networking, networking, networking. As the saying goes, “closed mouths don’t get fed.” Too often, people wait for opportunities to come to them, but more often than not, success doesn’t just land in your lap. You have to build relationships—some will feel easy, while others might push you out of your comfort zone. However, it’s through these connections that you gain both experience and opportunities.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in golf course and golf photography, and while I may not approach it much differently than most photographers, I believe I have a unique eye. One of the best compliments I receive is when people say, “I knew that was your photo because I recognize your style.” That means a lot to me because, for some reason, my images resonate differently. I think it might be because I capture and edit them with a slightly different approach, always ensuring not to over-enhance or saturate the images. I strive to keep them as natural as possible. If there’s one thing that sets me apart, it’s my aerial photography, which many aren’t as familiar with. I think it’s a game-changer because it completely transforms the perspective. I approach it differently, offering a view that’s distinct from a typical Google Earth shot. Instead, I aim to show a fairway or hole from a unique, slightly elevated angle.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For many years, I have dedicated myself to capturing the beauty of golf courses and landscapes across the state of Colorado. This journey has taken me to some of the most remarkable and diverse regions of the state, from the far northeastern plains near Holyoke to the western outskirts of Castle Rock. Each location offers its own unique terrain and breathtaking scenery, making every shot a special experience.
Colorado’s landscape is incredibly varied, with sweeping plains, rugged mountains, and lush valleys all within reach. These natural elements combine to create the perfect backdrop for my photography, and I’m constantly amazed by the range of beauty I encounter. The opportunity to capture these moments has been both inspiring and rewarding, allowing me to document the essence of the state’s natural splendor.
I’ve also been fortunate to work with several prestigious clients over the years. Among them are Ballyneal Golf Club, renowned for its stunning layout and location in the chop hills; Pinehurst Country Club, where I’ve been able to showcase its classic beauty and family oriented lifestyle; and Castle Pines Golf Club, known for its grandeur
picturesque mountain views and it’s long term relationship with the PGA Tour. Each of these venues has offered its own unique photographic opportunities, and working with them has been an incredible experience.
Throughout my time in Colorado, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the state’s unparalleled landscapes and the way they complement the art of photography. Whether capturing the rolling hills of a golf course at dawn or the dramatic light of the mountains at sunset, every moment is a chance to reveal something new and extraordinary.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big shout out to Bishop T Garrott Benjamin Jr., my father and ky role model since birth! He faithfully served for 43 years as Senior Pastor at Light of the World Christian Church in Indianapolis, IN (my birth place) before retiring in 2012. He has a private coaching practice, specializing in personal motivation, empowerment and vision-casting for athletes, entertainers, ministers, executives, as well as anyone else willing to invest in themselves. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Wesley Seminary. He’s always taught me that the keys of life are faith, hospitality, generosity, and compassion and carry that with me every day.
