We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheyenne Bradford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cheyenne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always been a creative person. It wasn’t until I bought a camera to capture memories of my kids that I realized I had a passion for photography. I knew I wanted to make extra income for my family but I wanted it to be something that would allow me to be flexible. My kids will always come first. Since starting my business I have really niched down to couples. In the beginning I dipped my toes in, taking a session here or there but I quickly learned that I was actually very good. I began investing everything I made, back into my business and that is really where I started growing.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others in my community is that while I love true and candid photos that are unique to my couples I also know that getting timeless posed portraits are also important. I feel like photos that have movement can show the love and emotion between a couple but posed portraits (especially on a wedding day) are what family member generations from now will hold onto. It shows resemblances between you and them. They show your entire face.
I am here today because of my constant criticism of myself. I will not settle for less and I am always up to hear about what I could have done better or how I could have edited better etc.
I love to capture photos for generations. I think about what I love when I see photos of my own family members from when they were young and in love and I try to stay true to that while also being “trendy” I like to say I have a healthy balance of the two which is why people love to book me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Mt Falcon West trailhead. It is not far from the city and doesn’t require an extreme hike in order to see pretty views. If someone was feeling a little more adventurous I would take them on a hike to Lake Isabelle… the views are absolutely breathtaking but it does require a 2 mile hike.
If they were wanting something with a more city vibe, I would take them to Union Station because it is such a big party of history and has some fun things to do inside. I also love Homegrown Tap and Dough – they have amazing gluten free pizza!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ashley Ammons Photography is who taught me all of the basics as far as the business side of things. If it weren’t for her I wouldn’t have been able to grow, especially since I started my business right when I first moved to Denver.
