We had the good fortune of connecting with Chicken Wire Empire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chicken Wire Empire, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Any creative or entrepeneur trying to make their own way, doing something they love is always going to have difficult times where they wonder why they’re bothering to keep doing it at all. But then you take a step back and realize that you’re living out your passion and getting to do something you really love, and play music that makes people feel something…and thats what it’s really all about, right?

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With our band, we’ve never tried hard to ‘make it’ or have what could be perceived as traditional success. Our art and success is based on playing the best that we that we can, wherever we are. Wether it’s on a stage with a massive audience, or a small group gathered around a campfire, we just love getting to play. There have been challenging times in the band, as different members go through different phases in life, but for us, it’s the music that allows us to continue, and heal through the challenges.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re from Wisconsin, but we have loved hanging out in Nederland and getting out into the mountains. That’s where you can feel some Colorado. Have to jump in a stream, have to get some bagels or a sub sandwich.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Thanks to the bluegrass scene in Wisconsin and Colorado, to Grace Design, and to all the bluegrass greats for so much inspiration.
