We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Hale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
When discussing the success of any business, you usually hear words such as transparency, honesty, and professionalism. But what does that actually mean? At Rocky Mountain Flex Fitness, we have found success by adhering to one word, sincerity. We are sincerely invested in our member’s health. We are sincere in our attempts to provide the best and most well maintained equipment in the industry. We are sincere in our pricing and when we say there are no contracts or hidden fees, we mean it. We have been sincere. We have been transparent, honest, and professional with every member since day one. We hope you enjoy reading more about our story and the values that drive our local gym!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am one of three owners in the Rocky Mountain Flex ownership group and am also a personal trainer. I’m originally from Denver but I spent 16 years in NYC after college at New York University. I have always been passionate about fitness and became a personal trainer in NYC around 2009, first working at Crunch before transitioning to being an independent trainer. I loved the city life but after so many years there, I was ready to get out of the hustle and bustle and get back to my roots in the mountains. When we moved back to Denver in 2017, I rebuilt my training business here. One of the things that is so great about Denver is how dedicated people are to their health and staying active. After a couple years of independent training at another gym location, I found Rocky Mountain Flex and transitioned my business there with my clients. I became close with the original owner of the gym and overtime, the opportunity to become a partner in the gym arose and I jumped at the opportunity to become a co-owner which was a dream come true because RMFLEX is like no other gym.
What sets RMFLEX apart from other gyms in Denver is that even with the growth of the gym, it has a very local gym feel. We are located in a former local lumbar yard that is now home to several other small businesses, like Ink and Drink, Hardy & Fuller, and Smokin’ Yards BBQ. Our building has a rustic warehouse look and unique feel, with expansive ceilings and exposed wood beams. Even with our remodel, we tried to keep many of those rustic elements and decorate in a minimal way that accented them. One way we did that was with a metal work sign of our logo made by our neighbor’s Hardy & Fuller. Collaborating in various ways with our neighbors has been just another way that we foster a strong sense of local community.
The hardest part of the gym’s journey has been managing growth. The gym grew steadily for the first five years, but since 2020, membership has surged as people continued the new healthy habits acquired during the pandemic or raced to return to old routines. Managing the rate at which the gym grew became a significant challenge until the expansion was completed in November 2024. Our members have expressed their gratitude over the new expanded space and we have enjoyed welcoming new members who have joined in the last couple of months.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many fun things to do in and around Denver so it’s always a treat when friends and family come to town. If it’s a warmer month, we would grab some river tubes and go to Clear Creek in Golden for some tubing, and then later grab a bite and a couple beers at the Golden Mill. Another day we would take them on a hike in “Denver’s Garden of the Gods,” Roxborough Park, to enjoy the beautiful red rock formations, expansive views, and wildlife. We would likely check out a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater, and we would also swing by Old Town Morrison on the way to check out the shops, walk the creek, and grab a bite to eat. In Denver, we would rent some e-bikes for some sightseeing down the Cherry Creek bike path and hit up spots like Confluence Park, RiNo, City Park, Washington Park, and more. At night, we might check out a Rockies baseball game or go to Meow Wolf. Lastly, we can’t miss taking them to see mountains so we might take them up to Frisco to bike the Frisco to Breckinridge bike path, then stop in Breck for some lunch, and ride the Gondola up to ride the GoldRunner Mountain Coaster. Denver has something for everyone, so you really can’t go wrong!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our devoted members—who truly feel more like family—are largely responsible for most of our gym’s success. Rocky Mountain Flex has been a local Denver gym in the Baker neighborhood since November 2015. It originally started as a small gym catering to a handful of personal training clients and Baker neighborhood residents, many of whom are still with us all these years later. We’ve been on a mission to create a unique fitness experience for our members throughout the years, and because of that, we have grown into a one-of-a-kind space. As of fall 2023, we renovated and expanded the gym space, which has almost doubled in size.
We heard the feedback from members and wanted to improve their gym experience because we know how important it is to provide a space that doesn’t feel crowded and provides everything needed for a great workout. The gym has grown into an over 12,000 sq. ft. facility with a new 20 yard turf space for functional fitness, a cool new group classroom that has also doubled as a posing room for bodybuilding competitors, new equipment, and remodeled locker room showers. We couldn’t have achieved all of this growth without our member’s unwavering support. It is a fitness community like no other!
If you live in Denver and are looking for a gym with a great community of people who are passionate about their health, we would love to invite you to try out Rocky Mountain Flex! Visit our website to sign up for our free 7-day membership to check out the gym!
