We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Mills and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process of starting my own business. This is a very interesting question. The process was influenced by a friend of mine, her name is Briony Wilson. Briony had a customer appreciation event and had asked me to deejay for it but there was one condition. That condition was I needed to register a business behind my deejaying, so I did my research, registered a business name and here we are today. I asked her years later why she suggested that and her response was “I know how talented you are and as my friend I couldn’t have you keep sitting on it!”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others? I would chalk that up to the person I am, the standards which I was raised with. “Do unto others as you would want to do unto yourself!” Those standards and the good nature I carry with me has allowed me to be in rooms with people a younger version of myself would have only dreamt about.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way is what you give is what you will receive. If you give good nature and a positive energy you will receive that in return.
What I would love for the world to know about my brand is that I live in a place where my culture is not as prevalent so I try to give that experience to people who has never been to the caribbean or even attended a caribbean event.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend was visiting Colorado where would I want to show them. I would definitely take them to the mountains, I would take a drive to Estes Park as one mountain town to visit. Another spot would be Red Rocks, whether there is a show or not, if it is during Labor Day weekend, definitely would take them to the Taste of Colorado.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate this shoutout to my friends and family who have been by my side and have encouraged me to continue on my quest to deliver an unforgettable experience through music.
