We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Wiggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what inspires you?
When I was younger, I read the book “Why Should White Guys Have All the Fun?” by Reginal Lewis; he was the first brother to build a billion-dollar company. Coming from a mom who worked at Sears before she eventually was a business owner and a grandma who was a southern housekeeper, I never knew our people could have wealth outside of music or sports. Learning about black entrepreneurship inspired me, as these stories were never taught in school and not mentioned in my community. The hustle it takes to succeed, being your own boss and the complex calculus to success struck a chord with me that has always remained; this led to be starting Starmada Productions.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am passionate about storytelling, and podcasts have provided a medium to do this. I take a journalistic approach to creating, recording, and managing podcasts. Five hours of work go into each hour that you hear, as I want the info to be correct first before I think about the entertainment aspect.

When approaching ad partners, I don’t jump at the first dollar; it has to be something that vibes with our audience. This is not easy when just starting out as you are excited about anyone who wants to pay you, but they are coming to you because you mean something, so having a say in who you work with, is important.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We are going to Tocabe, which is a Native American eatery; the fry bread, and native tacos cannot be understated! We might go play tennis in the Berkeley area at where the restaurant is called Rocky Mountain Park. The Oriental Theater absolutely pops off, plus there is a dope amusement park called Lakeside.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Starmada Production wouldn’t be a success without the folks who have made the podcasts happen, and this includes my Bingers Assemble co-hosts Scott and Mike, and Paul, who produced The Weekly Shift.
