We had the good fortune of connecting with Christen Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christen, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decsion that I had to make was to remain comfortable and employed at a job that I outgrew or to step out on faith and pursue my own journey in entrepreneurship.
What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets me apart from others is that I no longer run after every opportunity that is presented to me and I am learning daily how to utilize the tools that I already have. I am mostly proud of my faith and growth. There have been many times that I have been in uncomfortable situations that led me in dark places but I through it all I did not break or give up.
On this journey, I have experienced many ups and downs within entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is such a rewarding journey however now; I realize that everyone will not understand your vision nor accept some of the decisions that you choose to make, and this is ok. Before becoming solidified in who I am today it would really bother me when I didn’t feel the love and support behind the decisions that I was making to pursue my passion and purpose. As time passed, I began to realize more and more that my purpose didn’t need the approval from people, it was about completing the work that God placed me on this earth to do.
One of the major lessons that I have learned along my entrepreneurial journey is to continue to have faith and do not become so fixated on what everyone else is doing in life. Stay in your own lane and run your own race.
In life I want the world to know that with every situation that we encounter there is a lesson and in those lessons are the ultimate blessings. We will also develop life long recipes that will contribute to the development of our life success. Continue to put your trust in God, have faith, hope, and vision and it will take you a long way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If someone were to visit me in my hometown we would check out downtown, eat at different places downtown, check out poetry/spoken word events, go skydiving, and zip lining. I would also travel to different cities such as Charlotte or Raleigh and spend evenings downtown as they are bigger cities and enjoy live bands, activities, food, and so much more.
We would also check out the beaches, eat seafood, visit museums, and take many pictures!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to first and foremost shout out Ms. Phyllis Sneed. She was the person that recognized everything that I had on the inside of me helping me become the 8 year old entrepreneur today.
I also have to recognize my college friend Tenisha Dunlap. We have been on multiple journeys together motivating each other to become greater.
I would like to recognize my God Mother Tammie for helping me make my visions come true. Nothing is ever too big for her to see and achieve.
I would like to recognize my God Sister Mykeia Clay for always keeping me accountable and always creating memorable experiences throughout life.
I would like to recognize my two sisters La’Donya Benning and Tamiko Miller for providing encouragement and prayer throughout my journey.
Last but not least I would like to thank my parents Christopher and Rumiko Miller for their years of patience with me during my transitional period of exploring the new world of entrepreneurship.
