We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Walter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christina, how do you think about risk?
Risk usually means following my heart over my head. And as someone who works with intuition and creativity, I can tell you that following the heart is vital for both. Any artist, writer or creative will tell you that creativity can be crushed by the analytic mind and “playing it safe,” as the mind prefers to do. When an artist gets locked into a style or technique, the art often becomes stagnant. Art is all about taking risks and trying new approaches, so embracing change and flowing with it are essential to creating art that is fresh and alive.

The same is true for mediumship and the intuitive healing work I do. There is no formula or one-size-fits-all approach when working with individuals to promote healing. Everyone is unique, with different challenges, patterns and histories. So it is essential to push the mind aside so that the heart and intuition take the lead. It is a risk every time, choosing to trust my heart and knowing that the guidance I depend on will always provide what is needed most for each client. It is a daily exercise of trusting that has proven over and over to be well worth it.

As I consider the concept of risk, I realize it has been a constant companion with me over the years. Choosing to follow my heart to be the medium and artist that I was born to be was the greatest risk I’ve ever taken, yet my work continues to be the most rewarding choice of my life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I work as an artist and a medium. A medium is someone who receives information that comes to us directly through the intuition. As the language of spirit and the higher self (or soul), intuition is part of the Universal energy that we are all a part of. Through intuition we all have the potential to access greater wisdom; it simply takes practice. And I have had a lot of practice over decades on my own healing journey.

As a child, I was highly empathic and sensitive, tuning into spirit, energy and the emotional information around me. But due to the strict family environment I grew up in, it took me years to accept my natural gifts and their importance in my life. In fact, denying these parts of myself laid the foundation for decades of chronic illness, which began my healing journey.

We all have trials that are unique to each of us, and they are essentially gifts from the Universe, challenging us to grow through them. On the other side of each trial is more freedom, greater fulfillment and joy. Illness was the catalyst that pushed me to reclaim the parts of myself that I had denied, in order to heal. I studied mediumship to understand how I was receiving intuitive information, and shamanic healing to understand how to release trauma and stagnant energy from the body, enabling it to heal. I used art to process deep emotions and gain insight into my own healing process. Reclaiming my gifts allowed me to finally heal.

And my spiritual work inspires my creativity. Art, once an essential tool to help me heal, is now an exercise in joy. Much like the healing process, I love the challenge of making something new and beautiful out of raw materials. I create unique, custom art and sculpture from a variety of mediums to bring beauty and inspiration to personal and public environments.

Self-healing and study taught me so many important things. First, that we all have the power to heal ourselves! And not only do we have the power, but that is why we are all here. In the process of “growing up,” we often forget who we really are. We learn how to survive in our environments, which often separates us from parts of our own authentic self, creating all manner of suffering in our lives from unhappiness to illness.

Self-healing is the process of stripping away all that was never true for us and reclaiming our authentic personal power and gifts. Through mediumship and shamanic healing, I work with people to clear old conditioning, perceived limitations and wounding so that they can live the freedom and fulfillment of being their authentic selves, connected into their life’s purpose, using their gifts. It is thrilling work to see people transform their lives into what they love!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado is such a beautiful state to live in! Golden is a great little town to explore. Ali Baba’s Mediterranean Grill serves delicious Middle Eastern food in an authentic setting, and El Dorado Mexican Restaurant is a family favorite. I highly recommend stopping in at Woody’s Pizza on Main Street. And beer drinkers will appreciate the many beer gardens around Golden and the greater Denver area. People love tubing down Clear Creek in the foothills, and in the mountains, there’s white water rafting and camping. A concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater is unforgettable for the scenery and the sound. And I definitely recommend a stop at Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs or Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs for a soak.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have so many influences that I would love to thank. I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my high school art teacher, Mr. Bill Eccles, for believing in me and encouraging me artistically. A sincere thanks to Mary Torrey, my mediumship teacher, who launched me into my intuitive development and taught me to trust my heart. And I’d like to thank Cheryl Strayed’s book, “Wild,’ for showing up at a very difficult crossroads in my life, motivating me to dive deeply into my own self-healing journey.
