We had the good fortune of connecting with Chyna Bronson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chyna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was inspired to create Chi Marie after modeling in my early teens. Back then the industry was not like how it is today! I am only 4″11 and wanted to do runway fashion. The industry would only let me participate in Magazine modeling. I did this for a bit while attending medical school and pregnant with my 1st child. I received an associate degree in EKG and started a new journey in fashion. I went to school for design and gained my bachelors and proceeded to start a line called Short but Sexy. This line was geared more towards women who were short like me, being that it was so hard to find clothing that fit. After a few years I opened my line up to all women and renamed it Chi Marie Fashions. Since then, no one can stop me from getting on that runway!!!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart from others?
There are millions of people who have the same dreams, visions, ect. But none of them will be the same. Me, I like to take fabrics that do not match and challenge myself to make them work!
How did you get to where you are today business-wise. Was it easy?
I know it sounds cliché but hard work! I have owned Chi Marie for 14 years. It has taken this long for me to be successful. Just last year we made front cover of 12 different magazines and counting. I have the best team of models; some have been rocking with me since day one and others just came in last few years. But they are dedicated and work really hard in their careers. Because of that I pour into them and give them all I got, together we will all make it to the top!! They call me “model mom” I just love them!!! I struggle every day, working full time in the medical field, being a mom, a designer, monthly photo shoots and events and running a print shop. But it is all worth it! I love this life the lord is giving me.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
Biggest lessons for me. One, never doubt yourself, your dream, your vision. Keep creating someone will love the vision you create in your designs. Lastly, don’t worry about those around you who do not and will refuse to support you. Most want to see you fail, but you won’t! Don’t look for them to be in the seats at your shows, they won’t be there. Don’t worry about them not purchasing your gear, they won’t! It will be the strangers the lord will place in your path that will be your biggest fans and give you and your vision life!!!
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I want the world to know, we are here!!! We are coming!! We will see you in the brightest lights real soon. Promise!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am truly a home body; I don’t get out much! When I do I love to go to beer breweries. Colorado has the best local beer! Station 26 Tangerine cream and Vanilla Porters being my favorite! I also would take them to the Hot Springs! That all in itself is the best relaxing vacation to me. I believe selfcare is important and the Hot Springs gives me life!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter, Nevaeh Mari’ (bugs)! Everything I do is to build a legacy for her that will continue long after I am gone. She is my everything and I am all she has. She starts college this year for architecture way to go Bugs!!! I love you keep watching God because he is definitely watching you!
love Mom.
