We had the good fortune of connecting with Cody Pegram and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cody, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
As a parent, I think the best thing I can pass to my children is the ability to make good decisions, and the knowledge that all of the decisions have consequences. Whether those are good or bad you have to face the consequnces of your actions. I also try to instill in them a good work ethic and hope for themselves and their future. I don’t what it’s like for my children, all they can remember is me working towards music and making the band work. They see the hours of rehearsals, the sacrifice of time I have to make and the dedication I have to my bandmates and friends. I’m not a huge do as I say kind of guy unless I have to be. I try to lead more by example. I do my best to explain to my kids that hard work does pay off by showing the the fruits of my labor and encouraging them to work hard and wholeheartedly chase what they want. That so long as they’re fulfilled its is time well spent.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I see art, in any form, as honestly expressing one’s self. Its easy to show arrogance or flamboyance in art. Honestly expressing one’s own emotions with no ego is quite difficult. I try with our music to tell my story with no lense to skew the views and be free of self deception.

Getting to where I am now professionally was not easy at all.
I started playing music by busking, playing music to people who did not in any sense want to listen to me. I had to learn how to reach them honestly and grab there attention with my voice and my interpretation of the songs I was singing. It was hard in many eay to overcome my own self doubt and depreciation in order to perform at my best for an audience.
Along the way I met my bandmate Curtis and we began to support eachother with much more than just music but music was the catalyst for change. I began to believe if it could be a catalyst for my own change that perhaps I could help others change.
So I challenged myself to work on my shortcomings and persevere until I achieved small obtainable goals. I worked hard and dug deep. I learned that success is built on sacrifice and I had to sacrifice things in order to become successful in reaching my goals. I learned to be understood I have to be understanding. I learned that every person I meet is dealing with something I may never know about so I should be kind. I learned that the outcomes were never mine to begin with and I can only really prepare myself as best I can to face whatever obstacles or sometimes rewards I may face. I learned that winning is much harder than losing and it takes huge toll on me mentally and emotionally.
Long story short 6 years later I’m able to opening for national acts and have built wonderful relationships in my local music scene by utilizing what I learned in the process and staying true to myself.
I want the world to know that sometimes the work put in to obtain a goal is more valuable than the goal itself. Nothing outside of ourselves will ever make us stronger, smarter, faster or better. The answers lie within and can be found if we honestly and earnestly search ourselves.
I want to tell my story so that everyone can see their story in the tale and hopefully realize that the strands of the universe that tie us together are interwoven with the same meaning and principles we should all practice. That anyone with enough hard work can achieve what they want. However, getting to the goal is far less important than how you get there.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Red rocks!!! Hahaha at least once. Being a colorado native that’s the goal. Id that them to strawberry Park hot springs in steamboat springs. During the fall there is no more breathtaking place to me. Im not huge on the night life but I know colorado has killer karaoke bars so I’d make sure we hit a few of those. Probably a day in colorado springs at garden of the gods and Glen eyrie.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife! She’s super supportive of me and my band. She’s sacrifices much for me to do this and I’m so grateful.

My children, Dylan, Amelie, and Cassidy. They’re my biggest fans and the perfect inspiration to push myself toward my goals.

My Bandmates, Curtis Hall, Zach Hitchcock, Ray Dölph, and Chris McAlister.
They work hard and show faith in me to lead them. I’m so grateful the give me perspective when needed.
