We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Kendall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started Every Little Seed, because I looked around and saw how my life had turned into a hurried blur. I was running at a frenetic pace and couldn’t seem to pause and be still. So it was birthed out of a passion to help myself and others slow down and richly engage their faith, friendships, and art. We have grown tremendously from our original roots, now hosting art workshops, retreats, creative coaching, and publishing a Creative Devotional. Our devotional is filled with art and stories from contributors worldwide. It is exciting to see our community growing.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The great thing about Every Little Seed magazine is it is a collection of work from authors and artists worldwide, writing or creating from different perspectives about the Christian faith. It is remarkable to read the unique faith journeys. At first, this was tricky because I had to ask all my friends to contribute- but now, thanks to the internet and word of mouth, submissions are rolling in! It is so great to be a part of a larger community of creatives!
After the magazine got going, it was only natural to have art workshops and retreats that partnered alongside the magazine. We provide experiences where people can connect with God, build community, and create beautiful things! If it doesn’t point to faith, friendship, or art, we don’t do it. As the founder, I have had to learn to say no to many good opportunities to stay focused on the mission. And if you’re creative, you know how difficult this can be!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
EEK! I love sharing all my favorite spots with friends! Since I live in Fort Collins, I’m going to boast about my favorites there. The Regional has the best burger, and the Green Chili Chicken tenders at Music City Chicken are to die for. As for fueling with caffeine; Lima has the best coffee. You must try their seasonal drinks! I once left a campsite to drive back into town for a Sparkling Peach Espresso. Bindle also has remarkable coffee, but the Cruffin is near to my heart. Run. Don’t walk there. Space is tight but its worth it!
Once we had eaten to our heart’s content, I would take them shopping in Old Town and would hop on the trolley for a ride.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Kaley Alie. She has sat with me for countless hours and listened while I tried to wrangle all the creative-inspired bits of my brain. She has been a constant friend through the highs and lows and has never doubted that all this could turn into something. I’m very thankful for her friendship.
