We had the good fortune of connecting with Craig Gundlach and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Craig, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe all of your hopes and dreams lie in the other side of fear. Taking risks require the willingness to get uncomfortable and operate with faith that things will workout for your own betterment.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own Manic Training Fort Collins which is a group training gym focused on preparing people for a wide array of life’s challenges. I love what I do because I can be a part of helping others transform their lives. My mission is to create a culture and environment that builds strong bodies, minds, friendships and communities. Manic is so special to me and many others because of the deep connections made with the tribe through the challenges of the workouts as well as the outside events and philanthropies we engage in. My goal was to create more than just a gym, and am most proud of that result.
The path to creating this space involved starting with a culture rooted in core values that meant something to me. The most difficult thing in that process was holding myself and everyone else accountable to those values, especially early on when I was really trying to build the membership base. That discipline early on laid the foundation for the success and beautiful tribe of people we have today. I feel both proud and blessed to be associated with the high character individuals that Manic has attracted.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to exercise and adventure, so we would be doing a lot of that. I would most certainly treat them to a workout at Manic. Depending on their abilities I would also love to take them mountain bike at Lory State Park, as well as out on either Horsetooth reservoir or Boyd Lake to go Wake surfing.
I love to cook, so I would certainly treat them to some home cooking and also take them out to eat and one of my favorite ethnic restaurants, probably for Indian or Korean food.
I would also try and convince them to join me for an early morning meditation at the river followed with a cold plunge. Maybe take them out on the town one night for a show at either Washington’s or the Lincoln Center, depending on what was showing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My first shoutout would be to my wife who has stood by me and supported me when I was at my lowest points and who continues to tell me the truths that I need to hear, no matter how difficult. I am also eternally grateful for my higher power I choose to call God, who I accessed through a moment of surrender 15 years ago at a point of utter hopelessness. Today I can live in gratitude and service of others as I seek guidance and inspiration from God.
