We had the good fortune of connecting with Cristi Eckert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cristi, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?

The industry I am in is Energy Therapy. Some people know this as Reiki, Healing Touch, Acupressure, Acupuncture, and even Yoga or meditation. It is the movement of the energy flow in your body. We all are made of energy, down to our smallest atom. Like our circulatory system, our energy system has movement. When that movement gets blocked or stagnant, we don’t feel our best either physically, mentally or spiritually. Energy work like Reiki helps remove that congestion in a noninvasive way, providing relief from stress, anxiety, pain, grief, fatigue and mental fog.

What outsiders are unaware of is the incredible amount of science behind energy therapy! Many people think of Reiki as a mystery or woowoo option when in reality, the science shows how energy therapy does make positive changes to the body. Many studies have been done and continue to be conducted on the benefits of energy movement and balance.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I started practicing energy therapy on animals to help my own pets. They were aging and I wanted them to age gracefully without side effects of medicine. Through essential oils and energy work I saw them enjoy a peaceful old age. I have always wanted to work with animals in some capacity but couldn’t find the right path for that. At this point, I had continued to take several more energy courses and studies. I decided to turn my “hobby” into a career to help other animals and people. I went part time with my sales job to start my business and then the pandemic hit. I was laid off at my corporate job and decided to go full time with my animal energy business. For everyone this was a unpredictable time and to start a new business felt a little crazy. I was lucky that I had the support of my husband and that we had at least one consistent income in the house. It was stressful and hard. I gave a lot of “free” sessions away and very discounted sessions in order to practice and build my name. I worked a lot of part time jobs. I continued to learn and take more classes to build my skills. As the pandemic ended, people found me through referrals and online. They needed to find a balance in their life for themselves or their pets after the pause we were all forced to take during 2020. Energy therapy helped many regain their ground and direction.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When my best friend visits, we usually try to do outdoor activities. There are so many great places just outside the city like hiking at Red Rocks, or other mountain parks as well as mountain towns just an hour away. We do enjoy trying to take in a play downtown or try a new restaurant. Sometimes just a walk along Broadway at looking at the antique shops and unique stores is fun with lunch or High Tea at Capital Tea.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

So many of us are looking for that deeper meaning to life and trying to fulfill our greatest potential. It is a scary thing to leave the comfort of the rat race, or whatever that daily grind is for people. It can be the need for a higher income, health insurance, stability of a company job, or the expectations of family that keep you from doing what you really love. Leaving the corporate world to start my own business in Energy Medicine was, and still is sometimes, a scary rollercoaster and constant questioning of trust that this is my path. Having strong mentors that have gone down this path before me and not only made it but also have been successful, and happy, has kept me from abandoning my own goals. My mentor in Healing Touch for Animals, the founder of the company, Carol Komitor, was my first introduction to energy work and how it helps animals. She is an amazing teacher and gifted energy worker. Her ability to teach energy therapy to others and her drive to keep learning more inspires me daily. My Reiki Master teacher, Olivia Kenyon, taught me the people side of energy work and proved you could make a business from it. She helped guide me through my website and business building as well as be my teacher. And even when my business was up and going, there were still moments of doubt. My life coach, teacher and mentor Diana Gogan helped me work through the fear of the worst things that could happen and move through those fears to continue to grow my business. Every business owner needs people in their corner who will champion them forward and these three ladies are my support when needed.
