We had the good fortune of connecting with Cynni Buns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cynni, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always had trouble finding ways to effectively communicate with others. Growing up, I was always shy and reserved, and instead of playing with the other kids, I’d be deep into my sketch book. With each stroke, I’d conjure up fantasy like characters with intricate background stories to follow. It gave me a sense of comfort, something that helped little me be less lonely. Didn’t help that family was strict, poor, and had our own problems, so the majority of my adolescence was spent in my room. The only thing I had was my art and my music. My only escape.
I’ve carried that on now, it’s how I’m able to continue through life. Creating is my air.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Following your passions will never be easy, the self doubt kicks in at the worst times but it’s taught me to trust. To trust in myself, to trust in others. I’ve gone through so many variations of abuse and instability that I’m now just learning to heal. Making music that touches on darker topics has been a release and a way to let myself and others know that there’s a way out. There’s beauty to be found.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m very much a homebody, but I do enjoy heading up to the mountains and exploring the woods. It’s serene and refreshing. If not the peace and quiet, I love heading down to a loud concert venue. Live music brings me out of my comfort zone.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner, Witto Goom. We’ve been together for over six years now, and every day has been just as beautiful as the first. They’ve really helped me pursue my passions and we continue to support each other in whatever we feel like trying. They’re also a musician and artist so it’s a lot of fun. We’re always coming up with new ways to experiment. I don’t think I’ve ever met someone so kind.
