We had the good fortune of connecting with Damon Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Damon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting GreenDoor came from my own experiences with buying cannabis. I used to spend a lot of time driving around, looking for the best products. When I discovered delivery services, it sparked the idea that there could be an easier way to get cannabis. Inspired, I explored what Denver had to offer and found out about opportunities for social equity. This led me to take a business course focused on the cannabis industry, which helped shape my business plan. From there, I kept learning and started forming partnerships. These connections were key to launching GreenDoor. We aim to make high-quality cannabis easily accessible and to support our community through social equity initiatives.
What should our readers know about your business?
GreenDoor isn’t just a business; it’s a beacon of resilience and hope. Born from personal struggles and overcoming adversity, our brand is a testament to the power of persistence and the importance of natural wellness.
My journey to founding GreenDoor was far from easy. I faced significant personal challenges, including a rigorous probation that spanned seven years, during which I juggled weekend jail time and the constant fear that a minor slip-up could erase all my progress. Despite these obstacles, I graduated from college—becoming the first in my family to do so—and moved out of state for a job, pushing the limits of my probation. It ultimately cost $10,000 and the retirement of an outdated judge to finally close that chapter of my life, thanks to a new judge and a renewed determination. These experiences instilled in me a profound resilience and the understanding that pushing forward, no matter the difficulty, is crucial.
This ethos is deeply embedded in GreenDoor. We opened our doors not just to sell products but to symbolize possibility and perseverance. We’re dedicated to customer-led growth, putting the needs and wellness of our customers first. This approach sets us apart in the crowded cannabis market.
Our journey included overcoming significant challenges, such as convincing dispensaries to partner with us and navigating the technical complexities of establishing an online marketplace. Each obstacle was met with the same resilience and determination that defined my personal struggles, reinforcing our commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
We pride ourselves on our ability to enhance the customer journey, making cannabis more accessible and fitting it seamlessly into various lifestyles. Our platform allows partner dispensaries to deliver a greater variety of products with increased basket sizes, which in turn educates and retains customers, making delivery services genuinely beneficial.
Looking forward, GreenDoor aims to simplify the journey for those seeking cannabis for wellness and relaxation, while enabling dispensaries to better manage their inventory and reach a broader customer base. This commitment to enhancing the cannabis experience is what drives us every day. It’s more than a business—it’s a movement, proving that overcoming adversity isn’t just about surviving; it’s about thriving.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This journey with GreenDoor began back in 2022, a pivotal year for me, largely due to the incredible mentorship of Sarah Woodson at The Color of Cannabis. Her guidance was instrumental in shaping my approach to the cannabis industry.
I’m profoundly grateful for the support of many who have been integral to our progress. A special thanks to Ernest Toney and Mila Kellen Marshall, Ph.D., for their mentorship and insights. Also, a heartfelt acknowledgment to Shannon Donnelly, Eden Sayers, Esq., and Zach Huey. Their contributions and the programs like BIPOCANN and the support from Colorado’s Office of Economic Development and International Trade have been invaluable.
We are thrilled to be part of the vibrant Colorado cannabis community, striving to deliver a customer experience that transcends the usual, thanks to the collective effort and support of these remarkable individuals and organizations.
