We had the good fortune of connecting with Dan Hatch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After 7 years in the military, I think it’s safe to say I wanted to be my own boss. I wanted to apply my skills towards creating things that I wanted, and on my own schedule
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been drawing since i can even remember. I come from a family of creatives, and remember watching and learning as my mother painted in my childhood. In elementary school, i often couldn’t afford snacks. That all changed one day on the playground however, when i started drawing dollar commissions for my classmates. Usually them as a dragon ball Z character, or someones imaginary friend, or some other childish nonsense. It was early days, but i knew i would do this the rest of my life if i could.
In the past twenty something years since then, Ive drawn phone books worth of things, and drawing just to put snacks on the table was one of the most important lessons in getting this far.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Theres only one place Id be caught dead at, and that’s my local comic book store. Here in Colorado, that’s Time Warp Comics on 28th street in Boulder. The selection in reading is so diverse, that it really wouldn’t matter what the rest of the itinerary was. A day at the comic shop is a magical experience, that we could see disappear in our lifetimes. We all need to do our part to keep them open.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definately not.
