We had the good fortune of connecting with D’Ana Joi Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi D’Ana Joi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a highly multi-passionate person, I found that even with the best on on paper job, I would eventually get bored or burnt out. It was hard for me to imagine doing the same thing for an extended amount of time and I never considered myself to be career driven. I was always looking for a way to bring MORE of myself to the table.

Eventually, I realized that the best way for me to feel fulfilled in the work I’m doing would be to start my own business where I got to make all the rules and choose what felt most authentic to me as a multi-passionate person.

What should our readers know about your business?
Being a coach for multi-passionates is an interesting journey. Generally, I’ve found that the coaching industry is mostly full of business coaches. I don’t consider myself a business coach. My work centers around making sure that multi-passionates have the tools they need to thrive throughout their lives, not just in business.

A huge source of inspiration for the way I coach my clients has been thinking back to the advice, tools, and resources I WISH I had access to early on in my journey. I’ve learned that it’s more than okay to be your own inspiration because often, nobody knows better than you what it feels like to struggle through the specific problems that you managed to find solutions to.

When I was looking for support, I didn’t see anyone talking about how to cultivate clarity, create clear priorities, and stay focused AS a highly multi-passionate person. Or, the advice was to “choose one thing” as if it’s that easy, ha!

What makes my work different is that every solution I create takes into consideration the multi-passionate experience first. In a society that widely caters to specialists, someone has to be willing to give multi-passionates a voice. I’m proud to be that person.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone was visiting me in Long Beach, CA, we’d start the day at The Breakfast Bar to grab a bite to eat, then head to Shoreline Park to hang out by the water. Next we’d head to Pigeon’s Roller Rink to do a bit of skating and then we’d head over to Retro Row on 4th street for shopping and dinner.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to celebrate my fellow multi-passionate friend, Beth Cyr. She’s an amazing artist and all around wonderful human who has been supporting my work since the very beginning!
