We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Caruso and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, what do you attribute your success to?
Be the salt, it is the driving factor behind Salt & Acres. Salt is symbolic of everything we stand for here. When something or someone is worth their weight in salt, it means they carry great value for the world. Honest, moral people are often described as salt of the earth. In scripture, salt signifies loyalty and permanence and durability. It inspires our mission to savor the moment at Salt & Acres.

For us, the most important factor behind our success and the success of Salt & Acres, is putting into practice our desire to be good people and to treat people well. To always offer a place to come and be taken care of. The place you seek out to celebrate life’s special moments, or to even take a moment to sit back and regroup. We believe in treating people like they are an extension of our family. It is at the root of what we do and why we do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The biggest challenge that I face as an individual is self doubt and reminding myself that I am capable. I think this is something that many women struggle with. We are our own worst critic and can easily down play our accomplishments.

My talents have built from years of small jobs and the infamous “let’s rearrange the furniture for the 1,000th time!” or “is it too early to decorate for fall?”. I was able to experiment my design style on project in our home. My husband (also an owner/visionary at Salt & Acres) is incredibly talented at making all of my crazy ideas come to life. I spent the last 4 years documenting our design and renovation projects through what is now known as Beyond the Acres. Over the years I have grown my online presence to over 17k followers and I still continue to be a content creator sharing our lives as we create Salt & Acres.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question makes me laugh because on the first questions that my husband Justin asked me when we were creating Salt & Acres was “If we had friends in from out of town and we only had one place to take them- would it be Salt & Acres?” We had that though in the back of our minds when we designed and planned the experience you would receive the moment you came on to the property. So the itinerary would absolutely include a wine tasting with one of our amazing Charcuterie boards! I would also make sure my best friend came into town when we were hosting one of our amazing Preserve the Moment concerts. It is such an amazing way to experience Nashville’s rising stars with the Rocky Mountains as your background!

Ok, now lets explore some other amazing spots! I will warn you, this is an expensive itinerary!

Day 1: A delicious lunch at True Foods. Order their sparkling prickly pear drink is my favorite! We would stroll Cherry Creek North and I’d have to stop into Tecovas for a new pair of boots and browse CB2 and RH for some fun design pieces.

Day 2: Enjoy afternoon tea at The Brown Palace. Holiday tea is my favorite tradition but I enjoy their delicious tea year round! We would also stop at the Tattered Cover bookstore is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. I am a sucker for books and could look at them for hours! Dinner would be at Tavernetta or Blue Sushi- both are so delicious!

Day 3: Shanahans in DTC. I would order the carpaccio it is delicious, but everything there is so yummy!

Day 4: Vail. My favorite time to visit up there is September. Mountain Standard is one of my favorite places to grab lunch or dinner! I’d also try to fit in a massage at The Four Seasons!

Day 5: Wine tasting at Salt & Acres!

Day 6: Boulder. Sweet Greens for lunch and Pizzeria Locale for dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jesus and Family. Salt & Acres came to be from years of prayer and preparation, but it wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for a very strong leap of faith. You will never be fully prepared or well equipped enough to run after your dreams.

Dream big enough so it scares you when you leap and faith is the only thing that could step in and give you comfort.

We felt called to create a place for our community for over ten years. After many years of “No” or “Not right now”, we felt defeated. We now know that God was putting pieces (and people) into place so that we would be able to withstand the difficulties that all start up business face, especially such a large undertaking that we are running after. As we prayed for help, wisdom and strength, he brought some amazing people into our lives to be the support we needed to bring this dream to life. We have been blessed by so many talented and generous individuals. When we sought out to “be the salt of the earth” we believed so strongly that it was our calling to take care of people and it would be the full mission of our dream. We have always knows that our family and friends are the best people we know. What we never expected was the amazing amount of support that we received from them. That they are also running after the very same mission and put into action what it means to truly embody the salt and light. They inspires us daily. All the glory is to God and the amazing people that have become part of the Salt & Acres family. This is so much bigger than us.
