We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Kullman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I never felt more alive or connected to life, as when I’m creating and making art and jewelry.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I create my art pieces to satisfy myself first. I love the process of creation. It is so exciting to observe how a figment of my imagination, that I may have been mulling over for weeks or months, slowly becomes reality… and is appreciated by other people. Ups and downs have been part of my silversmithing career, and what has pulled me through is the solid support from my husband and children. Moreover, my success at small-maker markets gives me energy to move forward. I have overcome challenges such as starting my studio from scratch, suffering water damage to the studio, and being rejected from key shows that I seek to attend by pure persistence and believing in myself and my art. The lessons learned from my business struggle is that you must have a Plan B and Plan C and, as Mark Twain said, “eat the frog;” in other words, get the job done and don’t procrastinate. I want the world to know that I make every piece myself and that they are original, coming from ideas found in nature of just from the chaos of everyday life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver has so much to offer a visitor, as well as the host! The moonrise from Lookout Mountain is a must, as well as the Art Walk along Santa Fe Drive to enjoy local arts and crafts. Bars with avant-garde adult drinks line the street. My family enjoys the Domo Japanese Country Restaurant with its arched bridge, Buddhist statues, and shade trees, and we go to the Inventing Room for innovative desserts. Highlights such as a Red Rocks Amphitheatre concert, magical spots in the Botanical Garden, the Western collection at the Denver Art Museum, and the delightful furniture pieces at the Kirkland Museum would also be on the itinerary. And now Denver offers the interactive experiences of Meow Wolf.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Uff that’s a hard one there are so many Paul Kullman for investing in my dreams.
The wonderful denver making community I’m part of.
My family who keeps pushing me forward.
