We had the good fortune of connecting with Daryl Sommers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daryl, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Real estate is the family business. I’ve been in the real estate world since 2009 when I started as a licensed assistant to my mother in upstate NY. After a number of years working for other people including the coast guard, enterprise, peace corps etc I decided it was time to make my own money and do what my managing broker in NY always told me to do, work full time as a realtor.
What should our readers know about your business?
My personal relationship with all my clients really differentiates me from other realtors. I am truly there for my clients beyond closing, and that really shows when I throw events and the majority of my past clients show up and sometimes refer me to their friends and family.
My first couple years of real estate were tough, I was so broke and had a very small network. I was driving Lyft just to meet people and make ends meat. As the years have progressed my network and business have both grown and I am so grateful everyday for the loyalty of those who support me
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When I have visitors I like to take them to the mountains to hike, ski or camp depending on time of year. I love to take them to hot springs because that’s such a unique and fun thing to do. Visiting red rocks it is a must. Museums and church of cannabis too. I also take visitors to my favorite breweries, restaurants and happy hours. Breweries: cerebral and westfax, Food: city o, oddessey etc.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother and my managing broker in NY were really the catalyst for pushing me to go out on my own and start my own business
