We had the good fortune of connecting with Dave Huff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dave, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to fill a void in the fly fishing industry. In a time where rod prices were rising and customer service was declining, I was focused on creating a brand that provided great quality, top notch customer service and affordable pricing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Whuff Rod Co. was a brand I created to combat the rising costs of gear, sub par customer service and the image that fly fishing had to be expensive. Our rods are affordable, field tested rigorously to assure they’re durable and we pride ourselves on top notch response times to our customers. In the event that a customer does have an issue, our warranty/replacement policy is second to none with lighting fast turn around.

Getting to where we are today was a long road (9 years and counting). It was grueling, expensive and time consuming. All while working a full time job, which I still have on top of the rod company. None of it was easy. Without perseverance, constant support from my wife and friends who consistently reassured me, there’s no way I’d be where I am today.

I learned a lot along the way about the back end of the industry, from the manufacturing to the dealer networks. I came into the game with engineering and development skills, the rest I’ve learned as I navigated the rough patches.

If I could tell the world one thing about The Whuff Rod Co. it’s that we are HERE TO STAY. I’ve never been programmed to give up and I don’t believe in ‘flash in the pan’ style growth. We are growing organically through word of mouth and customer experiences. That’s how we want it to be. It’s the best marketing you can receive.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
