We had the good fortune of connecting with De West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi De, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Running a yoga therapy business has taught me the power of adaptability and the deeper value of being in service to others. Over the years, I’ve worked in a pain clinic, supported the birthing community, and walked alongside clients facing chronic pain, physical challenges, and emotional transitions. Through these experiences, I’ve developed a skill I treasure: the ability to intuit what someone needs and to see the movement, breath, or stillness that can help shift their experience.

This work is deeply personal to me. Whether I was running a studio, transitioning to online sessions during the pandemic, facing my own ovarian cancer diagnosis, or raising a child into adulthood, my compass has always been care for my clients, my community, and myself.

Each phase of my journey has asked me to ride the waves of change with presence, grace, and flexibility. The common thread through it all has been listening inward and trusting my intuition to guide the next right move. Adaptability, I’ve learned, isn’t just a business skill; it’s a way of being.

Today, my studio, Be Center, continues to evolve as a space for healing and growth, both online and in person. What I’ve discovered is that true strength lies not in holding on tightly to one path, but in the courage to pivot and to continue giving when life calls for it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Be Center is a specialized yoga therapy practice dedicated to providing individualized care that addresses both physical and emotional well-being. What distinguishes Be Center is the integrative approach, rooted in clinical experience and a deep understanding of each client’s unique journey. I combine personalized movement, breathwork, and mindfulness techniques to support healing, resilience, and lasting transformation.

I take great pride in how Be Center has evolved from a traditional brick-and-mortar studio to a flexible hybrid model that offers both in-person and online services. This adaptability has allowed us to extend my reach and continue providing essential support, particularly during times of increased uncertainty and change.

The journey to this point has presented significant challenges, including navigating business transitions, managing a personal cancer diagnosis, and balancing family responsibilities. These experiences have underscored the importance of adaptability, intuitive decision-making, and an unwavering commitment to serving my clients with compassion and professionalism.

The core lessons I have learned are to listen deeply and lead with integrity and generosity. At Be Center, my mission extends beyond yoga practice, I aim to cultivate a supportive community where healing and growth are accessible to all.

Ultimately, I want the world to know that Be Center stands as a place of healing and thoughtful care, grounded in the belief that transformation is possible for everyone, regardless of their starting point.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I’d want to give them a truly memorable experience that blends relaxation, adventure, and the local culture of Boulder and nearby Denver.

Day 1: We would start with a fresh, energizing breakfast at Tangerine, a favorite spot known for its vibrant brunch menu. Afterward, a visit to the beautiful Chautauqua area in Boulder for a scenic walk or light hike, soaking in the stunning Flatirons views, then a visit to the Pearl Street Mall for dinner and stopping at the Boulder Book Store for a great book.

Day 2: A full day immersed in nature with a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park with some of my closest friends, enjoying breathtaking mountain landscapes and crisp alpine air. In the evening, a delicious dinner at one of Boulder’s exceptional farm to table events, showcasing fresh, seasonal, and locally inspired cuisine.

Day 3: We would venture to Denver to experience its vibrant cultural scene, starting with brunch at Snooze, known for its creative and hearty offerings. Then a visit to the Denver Museum of Art to explore world-class exhibitions, followed by an unforgettable live theater performance at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Later, dinner at True Foods in Denver.

Day 4-6: Start by going to Verb in Boulder, for an amazing coffee then we would take a peaceful stroll around Wonderland Lake and explore other trails in Boulder County to connect with nature. In the afternoon, a stroll along Pearl Street Mall, stopping by Wonder Press for a fresh juice and lunch. On the other days we would explore hiking the numourous trails in Boulder, visit the beautiful Dushanbe Teahouse, and also visit the Boulder art scene.

Day 7: To close the week, a more restorative day featuring a yoga session together, followed by relaxing at a spa or meditation spot. I would take them to Buckingham park for a picnic and maybe a dip into the water there. In the evening, dinner and dancing on the lawn at St. Julien Hotel, enjoying live music and the lively atmosphere.

This itinerary reflects the authentic spirit, natural beauty, and vibrant culture of Boulder and Denver, highlighting the people, places, and experiences that make this area truly special.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who’ve shaped my path, and I carry deep gratitude for all of them. First, I want to honor the yoga lineage and the many teachers I’ve had along the way. I have gratitude for those who passed down wisdom through tradition, and those who met me exactly where I was. Their teachings gave me the foundation not just to teach, but to listen deeply to the body, the breath, and the unspoken needs of those I serve.

I’m endlessly grateful to the clients and students who’ve trusted me with their healing. Whether they came seeking relief from chronic pain, support during pregnancy, recovery from injury, or simply a place to land during uncertain times , their vulnerability and courage continue to inspire me. They’ve been my greatest teachers.

And a very personal thank you to my husband, a marketing genius with a huge heart, and a fellow seeker on the path. His insight, creativity, and unwavering support behind the scenes have helped me sustain and grow this work in ways I couldn’t have done alone. He understands the journey of inner transformation and reminds me daily that love and vision go hand in hand.

And to my daughter, your presence has been one of the greatest sources of strength and clarity in my life. Watching you grow has taught me more about patience, truth, and the resilience of the human spirit than any book or training ever could. You inspire me to keep showing up with heart and honesty, no matter what.

I stand where I am today because of a beautiful web of guidance, generosity, and connection. This journey has never been mine alone and for that, I am profoundly grateful.
