Meet Desiree Guerrero Richardson | Artist, painter, all around doodler.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Desiree Guerrero Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Desiree, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I’m very blessed and fortunate enough to where the people I love in my personal life, live what I do in my creative/business life. When I paint, they are home, they give me their input and ideas and that helps me a tremendous amount. If it wasn’t for them, Doodlez_by_Dez_ would’ve never happened. They are as involved with the creative process and growing ideas for the business as I am. They know that what I do is what I love. Before I started selling my art, my husband would put my art on the walls to decorate our new home. He believes in Doodlez_by_dez_ as much as I do. They all contribute to my vision. It’s a family afffair.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up a Disney kid and Disney is the most magical place on earth. I love Disney. The smiles, whimsy, glitter, colors, all come from that place in my heart. I look at my own paintings and they give me that feeling of happiness. For example, my favorite animals are turtles. They way they swim in the ocean is so calming and it looks so beautiful to me.That’s why I have a reoccurring character I draw named “Space Turtle”. He either has his own portrait or he makes in appearance in almost all of my paintings. I’m extremely excited about the next chapter. I’ll soon be releasing some of my prints on some merchandise. I plan on making hoodies, shirts, mugs, socks, pillows, whatever I can stick my art on, it’s there. It was a slow start and I was unsure on where we were heading but we are going to be everywhere. I’d love to draw for a cartoon or even make my own comic book. I know everyone will love my characters and I want to make a lasting impression. All I know is that I’m going to be the best Dez while I’m here and my art is part of who I am. So get ready to see me, Space Turtle and Friends everywhere!!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I would take them to go get some tacos, burgers, or pizza..lol. On Colfax and Chambers there are a bunch of taco trucks with different delicious things to eat. Then I would definitely like to catch a movie. I love going to Harkins which is in Northfield. They have the best popcorn and so many shops there to go window shopping. Or maybe even go downtown and take some pictures. Denver is such a lively place you can really go anywhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my husband for pushing me to do what I love, my kids, everyone who always have told me to put my art out there. All my family and friends really. Thank you everyone for putting up with all my doodles I would leave everywhere.
