Meet Diamond (Boss) Nicholson | Small-Dessert Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Diamond (Boss) Nicholson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diamond (Boss), any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I think you know whether you should keep going or give up on your business based on your desire to have the business. I believe that if you truly want something to work, if you continue to put in the work, it will happen. You have this plan, this vision for a reason so even if your business slows down or if the money is getting funny, I don’t believe you should give up on yourself, don’t give up on your dream.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Something that sets me apart from other small business owners is that I am a grad student working on obtaining my teaching license. My dream is to be an elementary school teacher as well as open my own community center in Denver for low-income families. Although I have always loved to cook, it had never been anything I’d thought about doing for a business. But, I love people and I love spreading love through food, so it’s all working out. I am excited to see where TBK will go and how many lives it will allow me to bless. No journey worth going on is ever easy. There are times where I wonder if keeping TBK running is worth it, but I think about how happy it makes me to be in the kitchen dancing and making Banana Pudding and how I blessed I feel when I get a good review. When things get hard, I turn to God, take a break, and then I get right back to it.
One lesson I have learned is to always take care of yourself. Overworking yourself can come so easy, but making time to relax and make sure you’re healthy is very difficult and takes time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, the first thing I would do is take them to The Curtis Park Creamery in Park Hill, CO. They have the BEST authentic Mexican food you can find in CO. I would make them get 3 rellanos smothered, HOT. If they wanted to stay at a hotel, we would later go and get checked in at Wooley’s in Denver. The next day, (it’ll be a Sunday), we would go to Light of Life Miracle Deliverance Church of God in Christ (5800 Monaco), in Commerce City. This is the church I grew up in under Pastor Roy W. Sudds. Lunch would be at Pappaduex. For some evening entertainment, we would go Downtown Denver and see if there’s anything going on down there. The next few days, we would travel up to Fort Collins, CO and hike Horsetooth Mountain. During that time we would also go to Breckenridge, CO. If in CO, you have no choice but to go to the mountains for the views, the food, the Gondalas, and skiing if they’re into that! I love trying new things so while my Best Friend is here, we would also research other things there are to do in CO.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout LaTasha Nicholson. LaTasha is my step mother and someone who has greatly supported my small business from the beginning. She helps me by creating all my merchandise and products that hold the desserts. She has made the Banana Jars, masks, water bottles for popup shops, shirts, and many more. If it wasn’t for LaTasha, I don’t think my business would be as successful because the appearance of your products is important and can greatly increase your sales. I’m excited to see what else LaTasha will create for TBK as well as how many more opportunities she’ll have as she also works with other people and organizations with making merchandise and/or decorating for events.
