We had the good fortune of connecting with Diana Whitcomb and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Diana, how do you think about risk?
I have always been someone who hasn’t shied away from risk and change. I started in gymnastics at age 7 and was pretty serious about the sport for 6 years, until I got too tall (haha). I would strongly attribute that experience to shaping my ability to stomach risk and trust the work and path leading to change. I think participating in such a disciplined and high-risk sport at a young age was important in setting me on a path for the future. Later in life, it allowed me to move across the country for college as a scholarship track and field athlete and take the risk to train intensely in that sport, ultimately leading me to the 2008 Olympic Games representing the USA as a Heptathlete. This mindset has transcended beyond sport and, in combination with good gut instinct, I know what feels right. As scary as it has been launching a new company and starting from ground zero, my belief and conviction are so strong it made the risk background noise.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?I launched a company named WILO Collective with my partner Alisha Baller in Q4 of 2023. Our company offers services to the real estate agent community that they may not be offered at their brokerage or not at the level they need, so we are the solution and essentially filling in the gaps to help real estate agents reach their goals and focus on serving clients. We developed a new solution; yes, there are other TC companies out there, but no one else is offering all the services we are, in the way we are, under one roof specially with what we have coming in the future like event planning. Not only that, but we approached our services and brand image in such a fresh and unique way. Agents are taking notice, saying things like, “This is exactly what I have been looking for,” “Your brand is amazing and just aligns with how I present my business,” “You are filling in the gaps.” What I am most proud of is starting something from nothing with my business partner Alisha, and from hard work and an open mind, creating something that agents say is solving pain points and is refreshing to see. That absolutely feels incredible. The path to WILO has not been a straight line, and I would have never guessed I would be here today! Below is the journey in a nutshell.
I made the shift into real estate as a realtor back in 2019, which very much requires an entrepreneurial spirit to be successful. I was building a great career here in Colorado but moved in 2021 to be with family after having my twin girls. We quickly learned that our hearts are in Colorado, and exactly one year later (Oct 2022), we moved back to where we truly felt at home: Denver, CO. After so many moves and numerous fresh starts as a real estate agent, and losing the desire for showings all weekend and open houses versus spending time with my family, I started to feel the urge to evolve my role in the real estate industry. With my craving for change, experience in real estate, and background as a global product manager (formerly with ASICS America), I realized there was a gap in support and saw an opportunity to “fill in the gaps” for real estate agents. That’s when WILO Collective started coming to life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start the week in the mountains! I am an IKON pass holder so me and my bestie would probably start out the first two days hitting the slopes in Winter Park. I love the mountain is a quick trip and I feel like every time I go we get so lucky with bluebird days. After that we would come back to the city and would go straight to Woodhouse Spa in Denver for a total spa afternoon. I love the vintage home feel of this Woodhouse location. After that we would settle in our room at the Clayton Club in Cherry Creek. We would of course go see a show at Red Rocks this week rain or shine (but no hail;))) after that this week would include a trip to Evergreen and lunch at Creekside Cellars, hikes at Mt Falcon, Roxbourgh Park, Golden, oh and brunch in Golden at Cafe 13. There are so many amazing spots around the city I could go on forever and great a none stop week!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Blake Whitcomb is the best supporter, cheerleader, example of what hard work is, and mentor. I owe so much to him as my partner in life. He deserves a huge shout out!
