We had the good fortune of connecting with Dianne Schell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dianne, what should our readers know about your business?
Kendra Collaborative is a concierge services and consulting company.  Our commitment is to identify and implement ways to simplify your life or improve your business.  We understand your unique needs and provide tailored solutions to free up your time and energy, allowing you to focus on what truly matters to you. Think of it like this, I take care of the things on your to-do list that you do not have the time, talent, or desire to do! What a relief, right?

How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Well, the idea found me!  It had to hit me over the head a few times for me to pay attention.  Over a two-year period, I lost both of my beloved parents, pillars of hard-work, wisdom, and community service.  I began to recognize the value of time and the importance of both being and doing what you love, in all aspects of life.

After these profound losses and reaching unhealthy levels as a workaholic during the pandemic, I made the difficult yet obvious decision to leave a stable, twenty-year career with Big Four financial services.  I’d been holding onto the security of Corporate America where I led teams dedicated to identifying issues and implementing solutions. The work was immensely rewarding, and I cherish the bonds forged with my colleagues, many of whom remain friends today.   I knew there was something more waiting for me, but I had to discover it.  The months that followed were a blur.  I found comfort in small acts of kindness and in assisting others in practical matters. I (re)discovered a passion for alleviating burdens faced by others by overseeing projects, event planning, and offering practical life solutions.

For years, the people closest to me often suggested I “start a (fill in the blank) business”. Their words carried weight, recognizing my diverse skill set and passion for constant improvement. Except how could I narrow my focus to just one thing?  It felt limiting and overwhelming.  Then, I had the lightbulb moment that I did not have to choose, and Kendra Collaborative was born! I chose to integrate many facets of my professional expertise into my business. I except, when you don’t fit a mold, it’s hard to describe what you do! wouldn’t have it any other way because it’s a reflection of who I am and what I excel at.  I’m your go-to for getting things done. As an ode to my parents, Kendra Collaborative is named after the street I grew up on and the way I work best.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

A lesson I continue to learn over and over is to pause and listen to that deep knowing inside of you. It is your guiding light and will lead you to where you will have abundance and joy. The noise of today’s world and the constant pressure to do more is static. Seek whatever helps you quiet your mind and listen. The path is within you. When you don’t, forces greater than all of us find ways to hit you over the head with it (speaking for a friend, of course…ha!)

Also, something that I feel the world needs much more of lately, is a saying from my Dad – “You can get more with sugar than you can with vinegar”. Kindness is everything.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Colorado Springs is my home-base and the Pikes Peak region has so much to offer all guests! One of my favorite places is Garden of the Gods, especially in the early morning or late evening when the crowds are light. The history of the land and the unparalleled beauty is magic in our backyard. It’s always fun to take out of town visitors on a 4×4 Jeep Tour and to visit the wild donkeys in Cripple Creek!

There are so many locally owned small businesses I love to support. Some of my shopping favorites are Ladyfingers Letterpress, Terre Verde and Eclectic. For yummy restaurants, Zocalo’s and Denver Biscuit Company are favorites as well as any location with outside dining and views of our incredible mountains. You can’t forget about the donuts at the Pikes Peak Summit house either!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I am grateful to have the unwavering support of my amazing wife, Kathleen, who has stood by my side through thick and thin. Additionally, my older sister, Judith, is a daily cheerleader and sounding board.  Their belief in me has been a constant source of strength.

I am incredibly grateful for the circle of cheerleaders in my corner. Family, friends, and former colleagues recognized my bravery and capabilities long before I did. I am thankful for the support system that surrounds me which has allowed me to find the courage to carve my own path. Through them, I am empowered to embrace the unknown, pursue my passions, and navigate the challenges that come my way.
