Meet Dillon James | Landscape Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dillon, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have recently changed career paths from an environmental attorney to pursue my passion for photography full-time. My first exposure to photography occurred while I was in high school. It was during this time period that I absolutely fell in love with photography and knew that it would be life-long passion for me.

However, I put aside my passion for photography to earn my juris doctorate degree in environmental law. Although I have been pursuing law for the past three years, I have felt truly lost, without a voice, and without a true sense of purpose. It was not until recently, at my brother’s wedding that I decided to change careers and become a professional photographer. Only through being in the dark for so long was I able to see the light of the world again. Photography re-opened my eyes to all that is good in this crazy world that we live in.

As a Southern-Californian native, our landscapes never fail to ignite my creativity. Whether it’s the waves crashing on the shore, the vast expanse of golden sands in the desert, or the majestic peaks of towering mountains, each natural setting offers a unique source of inspiration. The beaches whisper tales of relaxation and adventure, the deserts speak of resilience and solitude, and the mountains echo with the promise of strength and triumph. In the beauty of nature’s wonders, I find endless possibilities for my imagination to soar and my ideas to take shape.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would like the world to know that it is never too late to chase your dreams. Whether it’s capturing the perfect photograph, painting a masterpiece, or simply finding joy in the little things, the pursuit of passion is a lifelong journey. Every day offers a new opportunity to explore, create, and connect with the world around us. Embrace the adventure, welcome the challenges, and let your dreams guide you toward a life filled with purpose and fulfillment. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In my view some of the most fun, interesting, exciting people, places or things to check out are those that offer a blend of unexpected charm and authentic experiences. One such place is a hidden café tucked away in the heart of the city, where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with laughter and lively conversation. Here, local artists showcase their work, transforming the walls into a dynamic gallery that changes with each new exhibit.

Another gem is the vibrant street market, bustling with vendors selling everything from handcrafted jewelry to exotic spices. The air is filled with the melody of street musicians, adding a lively soundtrack to the colorful scene. It’s a place where cultures converge, and every stall tells a story of its own.

For those seeking a deeper connection with nature, a visit to a nearby hiking trail offers a retreat into the wild, where the only sounds are the rustling leaves and the distant calls of wildlife. Whether it’s the thrill of reaching a mountain summit or the simple pleasure of a quiet forest walk, these moments provide a refreshing escape from the everyday.

I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom and brother , who have always been my greatest supporters and sources of inspiration. Their unwavering belief in me has fueled my passion for exploration and creativity. My mom, with her gentle wisdom and nurturing spirit, has been a guiding light, encouraging me to pursue my dreams no matter how challenging the path may seem. My brother, with his adventurous soul and boundless enthusiasm, has been a constant reminder of the joy found in discovery and the beauty of shared experiences. Together, they have taught me the importance of resilience, love, and the art of seeing the world through a lens of wonder. This journey, with all its adventures and stories, is a testament to their love and the profound impact they’ve had on my life.
