We had the good fortune of connecting with Dillon Sheehan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dillon, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I would argue taking risks is possibly the only way one could fulfill their destiny.. I would also say life without taking risks, isn’t much of a life at all. Anything worth while in my life is a direct result of stepping into the unknown and quite simply, I would not be where I’m at in my career and ultimately my life if I never took them. My best friend passed away when I was 18. He would always say prolific things without even thinking about it.. something he said prior to his death was this, “Everything always works out in the end, worst case scenario is you die and it won’t matter anyways, because you’ll be dead.” Ever since his passing I’ve lived my life with that as my motto.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a tattoo artist. In my 20’s I realized I had to do something with myself in fear of ending up with a job I hate that didn’t reflect the amazing life I’ve led up until now. I also make art with different media in my free time and will be attending a local art school this year. I’m excited for the knowledge I will aquire and what quality of work I’ll be able to produce with it. I’m excited to become better at my profession and ultimately a better person. Tattooing has already given me anything I’ve ever wanted in life it’s hard to imagine what else is in store for me on my path, but I’m ready. I got where I’m at professionally now by nothing more than preserverance and the desire to not be a sell put (for a lack of better words). Was it easy? Of course not. It seems to me that some people have had it easier than me, but you can really never know that. With tattooing even if you have it “easy” it’s still not easy. And you really have to want to do it to follow through. And i think that deserves respect no matter what your path may have been.
The main lesson I’ve learned which i had learned before is, with hard work and a goal, literally anything you want to do is possible. Atleast here in the USA. I count my blessings every day and try and be a positive influence on anyone who gives me the time of day.
All I want the world to do is, please research your tattoo artist before getting a tattoo. It’s easy these days everyone has their portfolio online and we really appreciate it!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’ve only lived here for less than 6 months, but I’ve spent plenty of time in Denver over the years. When ever visiting take people here I take them to my favorite spots. Definitely always take them to Cheba Hut whether they’ve been there or not. Also, the 1up is always worth a visit if we’re trying to drink. The lodo district has always been the spot. And most definitely check out a show or two, whether it’s Red Rocks, Cervantes, The Fillmore, or the Mission Ballroom there’s always so much good music to see. That’s one of the most attractive things about the area for me being a music fanatic.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Henry Garvey R.I.P. and my parents for always being there for me even when I used to act a fool… my girlfriend Kaitlyn. Without her I wouldn’t be here today. I was lost without her. I used to never want to leave work for the weekend because I would just be there by myself. Now I can’t wait to spend time with her, every day. My mentor Tamera Amonds and Sherry Akins, without these two and their patience I would have never met Kaitlyn. I’m not easy to teach stuff and I have an immeasurable amount of respect and gratitude for them not only giving me a chance but helping me achieve my goals and fulfill my dreams.
